PREMIERE: Flimsey Lohan - Free The Elbow (Official Video)
‘Free The Elbow’ begins with a soft whisper, the band building up in strong unison - before propelling the listener into a tight rhythm that locks the vocals, bass and keys into a machine gun trance. This infectious groove carries the song into a soulful outro, with the vocals and Rhodes piano drifting away into a melancholic dream.
A song about feeling stuck, ‘Free The Elbow’ illustrates the band’s song-writing grit, as it craftily wields a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu reference to relay this ever-relatable sense of claustrophobia. “When you get caught in a Kimura Trap (an arm bar) you are cooked and the only choice is to tap, or let them break your arm. Sometimes life is like that, caught between a rock and a hard place. In many ways this song is a shout out to BJJ, that sport is my meditation. It’s how I escape, how I stop thinking about anything. It’s helped me live a healthier lifestyle that’s for sure. The track is also about finding confidence through reflection, glancing back at the person I once was, reflecting on him, then looking forward. In many ways it’s all the same really. We change and try on all these different suits, but the song remains the same. We are who we are.” Tommy Moom$ (MC).
Flimsey Lohan is the product of four friends who were brought together by their music tastes and collective artistic visions, having developed an eclectic and diverse sound that takes influence from Melbourne’s burgeoning jazz scene, as well as the likes of BadBadNotGood and Jehst.
Free The Elbow is available across all major streaming platforms from Friday 15.04.22.
