Superpower is the second single from Naarm (Melbourne) based duo Zretro (Zee - Retro) off their debut self titled LP.


Honey layered vocal hooks from vocalist Zima jump out above the pared back production by producer 2nd Thought, whilst tasty jazz inspired electric guitar sets the tone for this downtempo, head-nodding RnB love song.

Straight out of the gates the no fuss MPC beat hits, followed by jazzy D’angelo inspired plucked guitar performed by Luke Kozanski and slinky bass from Horatio Luna. The opening vocal line ‘Tell me why is understanding me your superpower? You know what I’m thinking even by the hour’ is catchy and reminiscent of iconic ‘90s RnB vocal groups such as SWV & Boyz 2 Men while the beats reference crunchy East Coast production styles that brings to mind Hi-Tek, Alchemist and Pete Rock productions.

Always blending influences and stepping between worlds, Zretro is more than one kind of retro.

Vocalist Zima started off writing his thoughts about his young relationships and the romanticising of friendships in his diary before turning the words into rhythmic poetry. ‘This song represents the fire and the passion I enter my interactions with and how I knew love when I was young.’
