Red Bull’s global 64 Bars challenge in collaboration with Gully Gang recently reached Mumbai, featuring an artist Wordplay has consistently covered called Trichia Grace-Ann, who was approached to participate in the season’s 17th series. Highlighting raw freestyle talent, the series aims to test lyricist’s abilities to keep their listeners engaged without the use of big budgets to distract viewers attention. The one day shoot featured 10 Desi hip-hop artists, providing an exclusive opportunity for them to exhibit their talent to a worldwide audience. The videos dropped collectively last week, and are all currently available on the Gully Gang YouTube channel.

Trichia’s single, Duchess demonstrates her versatility as a vocalist/emcee over an R&B inspired instrumental produced by Karan Kanchan. The calm, unhurried beat underpinned by soft percussion eases the listener in, before Trichia steps up to set the microphone alight. After initially teasing her vocal range, Trichia begins to rhyme freely and deeply about her passion for rapping. She stays true to her roots by mixing bilingual Hindi into certain verses, as well as singing a spectacular hook during the outro.
