Sonn - In The Heat (EP)

Fast-rising Scottish-Malaysian artist Sonn has dropped his long-awaited new EP ‘IN THE HEAT’, out today.

A five-track release, ‘IN THE HEAT’ is a sonically diverse record and features some of Sonn’s most personal music to date. The EP kicks off with February single ‘CAREFORME’, a hypnotic jam combining sparse, delicate production with Sonn’s enchantingly sedated vocals. Next is April single ‘SAYWHY’, a pop-centric ballad inspired by love and loss, and the minimalist rumination’s of ‘GLITTER’.

Sonn’s newest single ‘HEAT’ is up next, a vibrant, synth-driven exploration into emotion, themes reflected in the official video. “Heat was sort of the catalyst that kicked me into gear to finish this EP, I knew as soon as I wrote it that this is the direction the EP is going to take, its very nocturnal. I wrote this entire song whilst watching “Fallen Angels” by Wong Kar-wai, something about the quirkiness of the movie really inspired me.” In order to honour the inspiration Sonn and his good friend/ director Kizzy Kalu, wanted to create a music video that felt like a movie - it’s safe to say they achieved their goal. Moving on from ‘HEAT’, the EP is closed out by ‘FAST’, an intoxicating track that ensures ‘IN THE HEAT’ closes out on a romantic note.

“Overall this EP is about time and the changes that happen in short amounts of time,” Sonn explains. “Life moves fast so you have to stop and take in every moment otherwise they just pass by without you even realising. Sonically the EP has this very night time nocturnal feel and to me has this sort of Victorian romantic feeling about it. I didn't want to make an EP of one specific genre as I take inspiration from too many places. This is my introduction to the full artistry that is Sonn and is almost a showcase of my sound.
