Sophia Lili - Meant to Be (Single)

Growing up as a singer songwriter in West London, Sophia Lili has been brought up in a thriving community of musicians and creatives. She's friends with Artists like Feux (featured on her debut single ‘only one’) and Ashbeck (featuring on another single in the lead up to her Debut EP) and she's previously worked with Producer Fraser T Smith (Stormzy, Dave, Adele).

Being brought up in such a vibrant community of creatives has helped her to hone her craft, and is a big source of inspiration for her artistry and songwriting.

Sophias Debut single ‘Only one’ was well supported by the London R&B Scene, with features from the pit LDN (tune of the week), Wordplay magazine, Secret Eclectic, Nuevo Culture and spins by Jess Iszaat on BBC Radio London, and Babyface music. It also landed on two spotify editorial playlists, ‘Homework vibes’ (800k followers), and Fresh finds UK.

Sophias upcoming EP is about her recent breakup with her long-term boyfriend. The songs were written throughout the break up period and reflect exactly how she was feeling on the day that they were written, as a result they're very genuine. From beginning to end of the EP they go from sassy and independent to sad and vulnerable.

Meant to be’ was written during the first stage of the break up. Sophia always thought she knew what her partner wanted, but was coming to terms with the fact that she in fact didn’t. They were too blindly in love to see that the relationship couldn’t last forever.

The song is written in the third person, which is to reflect how Sophia was feeling at the time. An external observer, with things happening in her life that were out of her control. She knows now that it was the right thing to do, and the single following ‘meant to be’ makes that clear.
