Wish Master & Billy Whizz - Wish & Whizz LTD (Album) + 10 Questions

Official Recordings proudly present the long awaited album "Wish & Whizz Ltd".

A collaboration between the rising duo of Bristol based hip hop act Wish Master & Billy Whizz.

After teaming up in 2019 after both performing at a heap of shows up and down the UK, they quickly became one of the most sort after support acts in the country so it was only right they did an album.

From Whizz's 80s inspired production to Wish Master's hard hitting lyrics, boasting features from the UK Hip Hop and Garage world collectively, this is not an album to be slept on.

Wish Master and Billy Whizz sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

Wish Master: I have always had a love for music started playing the bongo’s and Jdembe drums from the age of 6, by age 10 I was into spoken word and poetry, by age 12 I was doing drama school at Bristol old vic, by age 13 fully into music and going by the name Defwish in a group called Kold Hearted Kru, which ft Buggsy, Joker, Tyson, Deezy, Scarface, Dvs who is Roni Size’s son, and Shadow Demon who now goes by Javeon. That was more grime and garage and the roots of it all for me.

Billy Whizz: My older brother and sisters were always playing music, my brother liked a lot of different music, mostly metal, then later jungle. I can remember listening to Sad But True by Metallica with him and he remembers me being about 3 trying to head bang so I guess that adds up.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

Wish Master: Growing up I was inspired by the all greats Big L, Pac, Rakim, Jay-Z, Nas, DMX, NORE, Foxy brown, Eve and The  Lox.

In terms of working with people, I think it’s time to take it international now with producers like Alchemist, Madlib, No id, 9th wonder, V- Don, 38 Spesh and DJ Muggs. rapper wise I wanna work with the best really but to name a few Musilini, Romez Streets, Che’ Noir, Benny The Butcher, Ramson, Boldy James, Nas and Jay of course lol.

Billy Whizz: My influences range from DJ Premier, EL-P, DJ Muggs, Wiley, Harry Fraud, to hardcore bands like Cold World, Madball, Skarhead, Merauder etc. Ive actually started a hardcore influenced side project recently, no name as of yet. Back to rap though I'm producing a project with Komposa that sounds heavy as.

3. Your new joint Wish & Whizz Ltd is about to drop, I've had the pleasure of an early listen and it doesn’t disappoint, but what can the fans expect from it?

Wish Master: For me it’s a classic but you can expect to be taken on a journey into my world and where i’m from, you get to know a lot more about me and the space that i’m currently in today but also what it took me to get there. I find this project quite personal and reflective.

Billy Whizz: A mix of everything really, big bass, grime influenced, prog rock, 80s atmospheric rap. Wish calls it Sci-Fi Rap, so I think that's fairly fitting. Features from Datkid, Upfront MC, Press1 and Danja so it's definitely a project to check out.

4. How would you describe your sound?

Wish Master: It depend who I’m working with, I try to build a sound with each producer i use. The Latest project Wish and whizz LTD has a very old 80’s era feel lot of samples from ballads and Rock tunes. It’s a very airy sound but fits all together very well, Mr Whizz is a scientist.

Billy Whizz: Me attempting to make rap or grime beats haha, I can't describe it, other people have said I'm experimental but I'm just doing me with my approach. I think people can get the jist of what influences me, hardcore, metal, rap, film and cartoon scores haha.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Wish Master: I would have to say getting booked for Glastonbury this year. It definitely is a bucket list thing for an artist to play at one biggest festivals in the world. Other than that i would say supporting Ghost Face Killah at SWX that was pretty dope got to bring a few guest with me as well like Datkid, Baileys Brown and of course Billy Whizz on the 1s and 2s.

Billy Whizz: Out of everything I'd probably say dropping our new video for "No Manners" the response has been crazy! Farma G bigged us up and retweeted it, Blade whatsapped me to tell me he loves it. Very appreciative of feedback like that.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Wish Master: Try to have a plan coming into the game, if it’s singles, an EP or an album, what ever you have, make sure the body of work is ready before release. Preparation is the key, so be prepared to spend a lot before you make a lot. When Preparation meets timing, it equals execution.

Billy Whizz: Be yourself. Stay true to yourself, and do what Wish say’s above.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

Wish Master: Definitely watch out for Da regiment, Gaza Glock, Tacaveli, Tona Montana and Axel Holy all got stuff dropping on O.R Records so keep your eyes peeled.

Billy Whizz: Da Regiment, Tona Montona, M.O.E. Gaza Glock, Komposa, Dan Stays Peak, Caravan Collective, Whiske XMP, everyone on Bard Picasso, and if you like metal/hardcore check out my boys in Overpower.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Wish Master: I got Tana talk 4 from Benny Bochella from Boldy James, Pray For Evil 3 by Flee Lord, Bethlehem by El camino. Datkid - Confessions of a Crud Lord, Swegasis By Black Josh and  Milkaveli and Alfredo from Freddie Gibbs & Alchemist and last but not least The J Cole Dreamville mixtape hosted by DJ Drama.

Billy Whizz: Pillars Of Ivory's new demos. Snoop - BODR, Nas - Kings Disease 2 and Czarface - Czarmageddon.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

Wish Master: I like watching films, going out and eating food, just relaxing really. Tbh i’ve always got something to do so rarely get much down time. I like going steam room as well, I always feel better afterwards, it’s so refreshing.

Billy Whizz: Watching Bristol Pitbulls play, I like documentaries on almost anything, and making a boom meal.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

Wish Master: Weed, Internet and snacks.

Billy Whizz: I'm boring in the studio man haha 1. Fizzy drink, preferably black grape KA. 2. Bag of MnM’s 3. A comfy sofa.
