Sandflower ft: MiGS MiGSTER - Bump! (Official Video) + 10 Questions

The genre-fluid Brooklyn born artist Sandflower is set to heat up the dance floor with her new song "BUMP!" featuring fellow New York based hip-hop artist, MiGS MiGSTER. Perfect for those long hot summer night’s out, this summertime anthem is a fun track with a celebratory message.

Produced by the incomparable David Sisko, this fresh and rebellious song is packed with driving beats and an infectious hook that will stick with you long after the party’s over. Sandflower showcases her unique sound that combines electronic and trap with an avante-garde flair to create a new kind of empowering club banger.
BUMP’S accompanying music video, directed by ELLE Magazine’s featured filmmaker Natasha Garoosi, is equally electrifying. Sandflower adventures through the Mojave Desert with friends made on a hitchhiking escapade. Her punk-inspired futuristic desert-wear formidably showcases the thematic eclecticism of her work.

From a dance party at sunset to a romp through Joshua Tree, this brightly coloured and high energy video is the perfect complement to the track.

Sandflower sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

All of my earliest memories centre around music. And I remember being moved as a very young child by songs in a deeply emotional way. I heard Brahms' lullaby that made me tear up, Prince Purple Rain made me tear up, Westside Story soundtrack “There’s A Place For Us'' the final song, made me tear up. Being so moved by music and seeing how my entire being could be instantaneously changed by a song is completely why I do it. The idea of something that I create having that much of an impact on someone else - maybe brightening their day- maybe they walk down the street with more confidence, or maybe them just vibing out - just the thought of that makes me happy!

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

A lot of the people that influence me are from the past. I stay in tune with what’s going on now sonically but it’s really important to me that I don’t let what is currently popping sway me and drown out the ideas inside of me. I love Talking Heads, Prince, Tears for Fears. And currently I’m vibing with the music of Doja Cat - I love her energy and her approach to lyrics & melody. It's really refreshing!

3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

I am going to release my first album in July! It’s been a long time coming and I’m finally ready and it feels really good. I think this body of work will give people a real insight into who I am as an artist. The songs run the whole range from introspective, chaotic, fun without being completely pinned down by genre and expectations.

4. How would you describe your sound?

My sound is a direct reflection of everything I love. I don’t limit myself by committing to any one way of doing things. I travel through pop, rock, rap, country, classical, edm, world. I think we live in a time where more and more artists are reflecting the fact that we all grew up listening to everything. And I think now is a really great time for music.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Right now is my proudest moment. I’ve recently put out two singles and gearing up for the album. I used to get weighed down by caring too much about how my music would be perceived by others. But now I focus on the creative process and if something feels right to me. It’s funny how life goes - it’s like you let go and all of a sudden that’s when everything starts to move.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Sure! I think we’re at a point with music where you can approach it from so many different angles. You can start on TikTok, you can start in a school band, you can start with a midi keyboard, you can start by being discovered by an A&R - but however you start - just start! And don’t stop no matter what. Commit. If you fall down, get back up and make your music.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

Yes Hanssøn, Dorian Electra, and Suzi Analog.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

The Experience by Lila Iké, the “Highway” movie soundtrack, and Miracle Tones Solfeggio Healing Frequencies.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I love to create art. I love to make large head pieces. I love to paint. I love to get lost and creating something with my hands letting the ideas flow in a different way with different mediums.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

My notebook, a caffeinated beverage of some sort (at the moment cappuccino with almond milk), and good energy.
