Dirtsa - Truly didi (EP) + 10 Questions
Dirtsa reveals her impressive sophomore EP ‘Truly didi’ released via Symphonic.
The five track record comes as a flawless showcase of the rising artists talents. The poet-turned rapper has been evolving her sound since she launched and the release of ‘Truly didi’ looks to be the standout moment in her journey so far.
Favourite moments on the EP include ‘Pouring’ which was born out of self discovery and the importance of understanding where you come from. The instantly grabbing track features Dirtsa’s lyrical prowess and fast flowing vocals. Another previously unreleased single called ‘10’ also makes it mark, written in Barcelona when she toured after winning ‘ Pernod Ricard Live Music contest in 2021’ the track brings back brilliant memories of working with her great friend Louis.
The EP release follows Dirtsa’s powerful latest single ‘say shit!’which premiered on Complex UK. Born from her lived experiences of racism and witnessing the countless events of social injustice around the world, say shit! Came as a courageous showcase of not only her pioneering sound, but her energy to work towards a better world.
Dirtsa sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:
1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?
I think my love for music was always there at some point in my life maybe too much under the rug but music was all around when I was growing up through my siblings, Cameroonian family reunions and at the same time prohibited because at home the focus was on school but when I was 20, it clicked to me that it was really something I wanted to consider and embrace fully.
2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?
I find inspiration in Frank Ocean, Missy Elliot, E.V.E, Fka Twigs, Princess Nokia, Fredo, Baby Keem, and so much more!
I’d really like to work with pinkpantheress, Little Simz and all those above in the future.
3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?
Lately it’s been focusing on Truly didi, a lot and continuing the work on crafting my sound. Everything about that would be let known on my socials so definitely come follow me there! I’m making some discoveries about my range which feels great and I hope it keeps on feeling good for me le doing it and you listening to it!
4. How would you describe your sound?
I would describe it on this project as electrifying.
5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?
This one must go to me taking the decision of embracing an artistic path fully. Retrospectively I’m proud I did that because it was scaring me so much but it also gave me the chance to then get proud moments like winning Pernod Ricard Live Music contest for year 2021 in France and having the chance to release my debut EP and now coming out with a sophomore one and so much more opportunities. I’m proud of myself for having the courage to take that leap of faith.
6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?
My one advice and one I’m trying to apply to myself too is to keep going!
7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?
Maybe you’ve heard of him already but it’s Jeleel!
8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?
Money can’t buy happiness by Fredo.
9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?
When I’m not making music, I love spending time with my family, watching a movie when I can, playing tennis also when I can, trying and playing chess with my sister but also go for walks!
10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?
Water, my phone and snacks.
