Sun Deep - Sifnos (EP)

Geophysicist turned music producer Sun Deep brings a much-needed global perspective to the underground hip-hop world. Born in India and based in Oklahoma, he explores themes of identity, love, and well-being, using a keen eye for detail to bring his stories to life. The Hindi rapping producer quickly began making waves with his thought-provoking album for charity, Will Rap For Change, which featured fifteen acclaimed poets, rappers, and vocalists.

Sun Deep is dedicated to creating meaningful hip-hop that has a real impact on fans’ lives. Now he returns with his new EP, Sifnos, which blends danceable beats with traditional Indian instrumentation. Released under Outpost 31 Studios, the five-track EP was inspired by Sun Deep’s visit to the Greek island, Sifnos, which ultimately led to his decision to pursue music full-time. Featuring the lush and introspective focus track “Mind Games,” Sifnos explores themes of isolation and inner journeys.

Sun Deep expounds on the EP’s meaning: “Sifnos is about finding who I really am. Sometimes you have to isolate yourself to find yourself. Being on that 25-square-mile island really opens up your mind on a cosmic scale. I was about to start my Ph.D. because, as a Southeast Asian, getting degrees and achieving educational things were ingrained in me. After being on that island with my wife and my thoughts, I decided to pursue music full-time and create music inspired by the trip.”

Sun Deep (Sundeep Sharma) has garnered a global fanbase for his multifaceted approach to hip-hop. Since releasing his first tracks, “Hometown” and “What I Feel,” in 2020, he’s continued to build an impressive discography as a solo artist, producer, and member of the multilingual rap duo Finite Galaxy. His first producer album, Will Rap For Change, raised funds for non-profit Asha for Education and received critical acclaim in NPR’s The KOSU Daily and the Oklahoma Gazette. His latest EP, Sifnos, showcases his ability to craft immersive soundscapes while seamlessly incorporating elements of hip-hop, rap, funk, Indian instrumentals, and everything in between. The EP was released under Outpost 31 Studios, an Oklahoma-based music collective founded by Kyle Mayfield that houses artists in a variety of genres.
