Tink - Pillow Talk (Album) + 10 Questions
US R&B singer/songwriter TINK drops her latest album, ‘Pillow Talk’. The project is Tink’s most honest and vulnerable album to date, showing a softer, more sensitive side and raw, unapologetic honesty.
The album, produced by multi-platinum producer Hitmaka, follows the success of her 2021 album ‘Heat of the Moment’ and marks a new era for Tink, boasting a signing with Empire and a co-sign by Cardi B, recognising her star quality as the “future of R&B”.
Tink explains: “Many of these songs were written solely by me, I’m still pushing my pen. Hitmaka and I put a lot into this. Playing with the name, this album indeed feels like you're laying in your bed talking to your guy or girl. It’s a very sexy, soft mood.”
The first single of the project, ‘Cater’ ft. 2 Chainz has already reached over 2 million streams on Spotify alone.
Tink sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:
1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?
My love for music started very early. I grew up surrounded by music. My father is a musician and music engineer. And my mom was a gospel singer. So I fell in love with it quick. My dad recorded my first mixtape when I was 14. And I’ve been doing music ever since.
2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?
Some of my biggest influences are Beyonce, Lauryn Hill, SWV, and Rihanna . To this day I still play their albums out! In the future I would love to work with Brent Faiyaz. I love how honest and triggering his work is.
3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?
My album Pillow Talk is out now. It's one of my most vulnerable albums and I got a chance to really show my seductive side. It features Fabulous , Muni Long, G Herbo and a few other amazing acts.
4. How would you describe your sound?
My sound is a cross between R&B and rap. I'm very soulful but at the same time my music has a Chicago edge. You never know what to expect honestly. It's very unique.
5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?
My proudest moment to date is selling out the Chicago Theatre in my hometown. Its a very iconic venue and it’s also a huge concert hall. To headline a sold out crowd there was very big for me.
6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?
My advice to artists looking to get in the game is to have patience. Its not an overnight process and its not an easy process either. It takes time to build the foundation so don’t get discouraged. Stay consistent and work hard.
7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?
There's a lot of artists coming out of Chicago that have a crazy wave. Ann Marie is my favourite. She speaks for the girls and her message is always real.
8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?
Pillow Talk is probably the most played album on my Spotify right now. There’s a song for every emotion on it. I can play it night and day.
9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?
When I’m not making music I like to take trips. That's the ultimate freedom. Being away from everything. I like to turn my phone off some days and just feel present. Enjoy the moment.
10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?
When I’m in the studio I can’t live without my notebook, my chai tea, and my tequila!
