Akemi Fox - You’re My Favourite Day (EP)

Hot on the heels of sun-tinged single ‘I Want It’, Manchester’s rising star Akemi Fox releases her much awaited sophomore EP, You’re My Favourite Day, out now on NQ Records.

A cohesive 5-track project, You’re My Favourite Day consists of recent single releases ‘See You Soon’ and ‘I Want It’ featuring fellow Manchester talent July 7. Released just last month, ‘I Want It’ was named BBC Introducing’s Track Of The Week, and received support from DJ Target, Sian Anderson, Lady Leshurr & DJ Ace on BBC Radio 1Xtra, Victoria Jane on BBC Radio 1, as well as being playlisted by Rinse FM and Reprezent.

Sharing context behind the EP, Akemi Fox explains, “The EP is a love letter to the love in my life. The songs give off this warm feeling of summer which is my favourite season. I want to make you feel warm and light all through the year even if you’re listening to it on the coldest day. The title of the EP means how sunny days are my favourite days, but also everyday I’m with my love they are too!”

Opening with alluring focus track ‘So Fine’, the laidback song sets the vibe of the EP, as romantic synth chords and summery guitar riffs pair gracefully with Akemi’s wispy vocals as she croons, “I’ve got a taste for you.” Heating things up next is latest single release ‘I Want It’, with its Afrobeats-tinged production and catchy guest verse from July 7. Steadying the pace with ‘Sun’, this third track accentuates the hazy warmth of the project thus far, while the otherworldly floatiness of ‘Movie’ slows things down with heightened sensuality. The project comes full circle with previous single release ‘See You Soon’ rounding things up, a bouncy R&B-inflected song weaving layered harmonies with glittery hints of jazz in the form of brass and percussion.
