Sonnyjim + The Purist ft: MF Doom & Jay Electronica - Barz Simpson (Single)

With fans desperately anticipating their joint release, prolific hip hop producer The Purist and rapper/producer Sonnyjim finally share the first glimpse of their new collaborative moniker White Girl Wasted, with slick single ‘Barz Simpson’ which features the late MF DOOM and Jay Electronica.

The first single from their forthcoming self-titled album White Girl Wasted, ‘Barz Simpson’ sets a precedent for the project in its entirety. Wasting no time, the track opens with an instant verse of clever wordplay from Sonnyjim interwoven with The Purist’s trippy funk-leaning production laced with a tasty loop. A heavyweight lineup of features sees the enigmatic MF DOOM spray the track with his distinctive style and delivery which will undoubtedly bring excitement to fans of the late talent. Going back-to-back with this is the mythical Jay Electronica who brings his laidback and poignant energy for the closing verse.

4 years in the making, the White Girl Wasted album first came to fruition after a week of hedonism at Outlook Festival, when Brighton-based The Purist and Birmingham-born / London-based Sonnyjim hit the studio. Toying with the idea of making a cult tape that assembles a loose collective of artists with their own unique auras, they made the woozy beat to what would become ‘Barz Simpson’, and Sonnyjim laid his verse in one take. Agreeing that it sounded like a DOOM joint, they sent it his way and asked if he would contribute 16 bars. He sent it back a day later with double that. Thus the bar had been set for the project.

A concise 8-track body of work, White Girl Wasted is set for release on 6th September via The Purist’s label Daupe! - a “Quality Not Quantity” imprint that has become renowned for crashing Bandcamp with every release. The rest of the project boasts features from DJ Premier, Madlib, Lee Scott and Milkaveli.
