PREMIERE: Angel X Star - SEI (Official Video) + 10 Questions
Rising UK brother and sister RnB duo Angel x Star releases the visuals to their new single SEI. Just in time for summer ‘’SEI’’ highlights how much heartbreak can hurt sometimes. The track reaffirms the duo’s signature of heartbreak rhetorical questions accompanied by a warm and sunny music video which almost takes away the fact this is a heartbreak song.
The duo demonstrates their true ability of creativity by using two languages in their new single "Shona and English" which capsulate’s the emotion and rawness of the song.
We see a different side to Angel X Star's love experience with rhetorical questions throughout the song such as "you want more, you want more?"
Angel x Star are an R&B duo composed of brother and sister Angel and Star. At a young age, the duo performed in church and acting roles before taking their musical talent and ability seriously. The two began posting their music on social media platforms four years ago and since then, they have been acknowledged by names such as DJ Target, DJ Ace and other radio DJ's in the industry. The duo's versatility shines through their artistry which is perfectly shown in this new release with the use of different languages. Their musical influences range from Aaliyah, J. Cole and Brandy.
The duo sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:
1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?
Music has always been a part of us since childhood, singing in church and learning instruments through church. That’s where it started. We come from a family that has a big range of vocals, so we guess it wasn’t a no brainer knowing that somehow that talent was going to fall on us and take the lead to carry on the gift of singing.
2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?
J. Cole, Nao, Ed Sheeran, Tems and many more honestly. I think we are definitely inspired by these we have mentioned but also the likes of Brandy and Aaliyah that paved the way in the RnB Scene. It will be a pleasure to work with Brandy and not even to record a song but to be mentored and learn from her wonderful talent and skills.
3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?
Another single and maybe another headline show. Will see how the year ends but a single will be nice, just to close off the year with it.
4. How would you describe your sound?
This question is always so tricky to answer because we feel as out sound is contemporary RnB. We love RnB but we feel as we always or will put a twist on it. For example, our new SINGLE ‘’SEI ‘’that is out right now, it has some influences of afro pop but the baseline of it all, we tried to bring it back to it being RnB and the love, heartbreak narrative around it all.
5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?
I feel like we have a lot of proud moments, but the most recent one is the first headline show that we had in Birmingham. WE SOLD OUT!! The night was just surreal and having the audience sing our songs back at us was just a beautiful moment that as an artist you always wish for.
6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?
Our advice is to just keep going and never give up because you don’t know how your music may impact another person’s life. We live by a lyric that J. Cole said, which goes, ‘’keep going, your life can change in one year, even when it’s dark out, the sun is shining somewhere’’ which is pretty much self explanatory to be honest.
7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?
We’ve been listening to a variety of artists, and we like to stay versatile and not limit ourselves to just mainstream artists, so at the moment we’ve listening to Tendai, Odeal, Bellah, LA NUCCI and we are big fans of Shae Universe.
8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?
There’s a couple good albums that have recently been released, but at the moment Omah Lay with Boy Alone; Brent Faiyaz with Wasteland and Burna Boy with Love, Damini.
9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?
We enjoy reading and travelling to new places. Angel is an actor so he is always on the go on the acting side doing theatre or writing.
10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?
My phone, a bottle of water and a banana.
