Ira Nor - Swim Ira (EP)

Oslo based pop newcomer Ira Nor releases her debut EP 'Swim Ira' via 777 Music (boy pablo, Fur).

“Pain can be beautiful if you use it in the right context,” says Ira Nor. “So I always try to do something beautiful with mine.” By taking her hurt and channelling it into music as futuristic as it is gut-punchingly relatable, the 22-year-old Norwegian songwriter does exactly that on debut EP 'Swim Ira'.

Sonically the EP looks to the future, but the synths and general warmth feel all kinds of Blade Runner nostalgic. Turn your attention to Ira’s warped vocals though, and suddenly the lyrical anguish behind the bangers hits home.

“It’s intuitive for me,” she explains of her songwriting process. “I often feel like my head is bursting with melodies but I suppress them until I feel like I have so many ideas I need to get them out, and then I let them burst through.” Like a furious moment of possession, Ira admits that she often wonders where it all comes from.

Having taken her worst moments and transformed them into something not only beautiful but capable of bringing comfort to others, Ira Nor is something special. “I just want to let people know that it will be ok,”she says. “Finding your own way; moving on from a bad situation and suddenly finding yourself alone. It will all be ok.” Following in the footsteps of her songwriting heroes, the young artist has landed on a sound as exciting as it is important. “I just wanna move someone,” says Ira Nor. “I’m doing this because I’m in love with the process of making music – it would mean the world to me if it helps people too.”
