Dapz on the Map - Give Thanks (Single)
Birmingham musician Dapz On The Map releases new single, ‘Give Thanks’ ahead of his debut album, ‘Landed’ due 28th October. On ‘Give Thanks’ Dapz is re-united with frequent collaborator Swifta Beater (Aitch, AJ Tracey, Ghetts) who delivers an eerie production tailored for Dapz’ authentic flow and wordplay which continues to earn him accolades beyond his native city. Marking the final single ahead of a milestone moment, ‘Give Thanks’ see Dapz reflect on the longevity of his music career as he acknowledges his personal and musical growth. A successful summer filled with collaborations and videos, the album preparation continues with the upcoming announcement of ‘Give Thanks’ being featured on the official FIFA 23 soundtrack.
‘Give Thanks’ stems from the gratitude I have for my position in the game. Over the years I’ve seen peers lose their position, due to bad decisions & inconsistency. After being approached to work on a project for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, it gave me a sense of relief and pride knowing that I’m still regarded as an artist to represent my city. I had to Give Thanks knowing what that did for me and my family.”
Dapz On The Mapz’ eclectic musical palette spans across; Dancehall, Jungle, Garage, Grime and Rap and was ingrained in him from birth courtesy of his elder peers and family. Creatively woven into his sound, Dapz took those influences into his own hands and has since become a linchpin in the West Midlands music scene with co-signs from the likes of Kano, Skepta, Sian Anderson & DJ Target.
Notoriously breaking down any boundaries in his way, he has remained an integral part of the scene with tracks such as ‘Beautiful’ and ‘Froggy’ remaining key to his discography. Conscious of shifting the stigma of being labeled as just an MC, his personal sound merges Grime and R&B elements resulting in Dapz creating his own pioneering sound which he labels Grime&B. Over time he has become a role model for Birmingham and beyond with the aim of inspiring the next generation of artists to achieve everything he has and more. Recent collaborations for Dapz include ’Streets of Rage’ with fellow Birmingham artist, Tempa before teaming up with iconic UB40 for Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games single, with ‘Champion’. Last month, Dapz performed at JME’s Grime MC event and is now scheduled to support the Birmingham leg of Essex-Rapper, Jordy’s tour to mark his last performance ahead of his own showcases.
