LUCI - Juvenilia (EP)

Charlotte-born, New York-based artist LUCI (pronounced Loo Chē) has released her debut EP, Juvenilia, via Don’t Sleep. This EP is supported by the release of 3 previous singles: ‘Ash & Dust’, ‘Trippin Trippin Trippin’ and ‘Gnarly’. The EP was mixed entirely by Edmund Irwin-Singer of Glass Animals fame. LUCI has spoken about working with Irwin-Singer, saying:
“...we’ve gotten incredibly close and he’s been a major part in helping bring this project to a close. He’s got a passion and mind that I truly adore.”
LUCI is part of a prestigious musical lineage, being the great-great niece of jazz legend John Coltrane. Like Coltrane, LUCI is a fearless and expressive artist, as she demonstrates all over Juvenilia. The EP is an eclectic combination of many distinct sounds; throughout Juvenilia’s 8 tracks, LUCI incorporates influences from hip-hop, R&B, punk and psychedelia among others. She also displays a wholly original and eccentric vocal style that sets her apart from many other artists. The lyrical content of Juvenilia is often emotionally evocative and personal in nature, as is the norm for an artist of this caliber. LUCI proves herself to be impossible to pin down artistically, as she jumps from cracked vocal inflections, to anthemic group choruses, to high-energy half-sung, half-rapped verses. Whatever your typical musical preference happens to be, LUCI almost certainly incorporates it into this EP in some way. As a result, Juvenilia is very likely to satisfy, and stands as one of the year’s most exciting releases.
