Dabbla x GhostTown - Wave (Official Video)

Potent Funk’s sea captain is back on grime. Dabbla enlists his High Focus comrade GhostTown to build a sub-heavy foundation for letting off steam. ‘Wave’ follows Dabbla’s explosive EP Bad Tuesday, produced by Austrian duo alllone. Though here, fans will be reminded of the grit GhostTown brought to their Dead Players collaborations, alongside Jam Baxter.

It draws on a creative relationship also spanning Dabbla’s cult classic LPs Death Moves and Year Of The Monkey. But the notch has been turned, ever so slowly, once again. North London MC Dabbla cut his teeth on Rinse and Freeze FM, before forming the prolific crews LDZ, Dead Players and Still A Problem. He’s now at the helm of independent record label Potent Funk. Dabbla’s first solo LP Year of the Monkey landed on High Focus in 2016 and led to Romesh Ranganathan selecting him to soundtrack his US TV series, Just Another Immigrant. Dabbz dropped his second LP Death Moves via Potent Funk, followed by his joint album with Sumgii, Nobody - “a collection of wide-ranging sounds that explored the full gamut of UK rap and hip-hop” (Trench). After ‘Alec Baldwin’ saw his return to stage, Dabbla ended 2022 on a blowout, in the form of Bad Tuesday - produced by Austrian double act alllone.

GhostTown is a beatmaker/producer who soaked up soundsystem culture when squatting in Soul II Soul’s abandoned studio. He fuses a host of global styles, producing distinct beats for the likes of Dead Players, Durrty Goodz, Meridian Dan and Ocean Wisdom.
