Rising Manchester-based rapper and lyricist 6Baby crashes into the UK consciousness with his scintillating new track “Tek Time”.

Newcomer 6Baby, formerly Hxxdz, continues to make a mark on the Northern rap scene with his powerful new singe “Tek Time”. Serving up an intricately interwoven fast-paced soundtrack, consisting of skippy snares and woozy bass kicks, the 0161 rapper delivers his seamless flow and catchy bars throughout, touching upon the polarity of relationships. Taking inspiration from the likes of A Boogie, Benji and Lil Baby, the twenty-two-year-old morphs transatlantic sounds into his own unique style, marking him as a serious one to watch for 2024 and beyond.

Speaking on the single, 6Baby states: “Tek Time is a play on the original Popcaan sample 'My Type' the song has a drill influence it is fun easy listening and good vibes - it touches on themes of relationships and the polarity of them.”

Continuing to garner attention across the UK, 6Baby has already been championed by the likes of WONDERLAND MAGAZINE and VIPER MAGAZINE, as well as key rap tastemakers such as GRM DAILY, LINK UP TV and MIXTAPE MADNESS, as well as delivering two freestyles for P110’sHoodz Hottest’. Alongside radio support from RADIO 1 XTRA’s DJ Target for his latest “Tomorrow’s Never Promised” freestyle, 6Baby has been busy working alongside some of the most exciting UK rap to date including Fizzler, Private Zero and Kayem2x, as well as producers such as ME13, Lupe and DA.

With a seemingly innate ability to make catchy yet versatile music, 6Baby continues to garner attention across the country, and with plenty more music to come, 2024 looks set to be a milestone year for the Mancunian rapper.

6Baby sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

My love for music began from a very early age I would say from about 8 years old.

I knew that I had some sort of gift for writing lyrics.  Listening to a lot of music eventually opened up a new awareness of my own surroundings and of the world. It was only around the age of 16 when others remarked that I had a knack for writing that I began to think that this could be a career choice.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

Bob Marley, RIP, was an artist, who influenced the world with his music, whilst also fighting for moral issues. He is one artist that I would have loved to have worked with.

Another personal influence is A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, as I feel that his story telling about relationships through his songs is unmatched by any other artist. I feel that this has had an impact on my own personal life.

3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

I have been involved in a few exciting projects, but can’t provide any further information at the moment!

4. How would you describe your sound?

At the moment my sound can be described as Drill or Rap, although I have recently been writing in different genres such as melodic styles.  Music is always changing due to social trends, personal preferences and advances in new technology, so my sound may differ in a few years time. So, as they say, watch this space.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

My proudest moment so far has been signing a publishing deal with Jinsing/Universal Publishing Group. This validated my role as an Artist as someone believed in my ability. I would also say being involved in Song Castle Finland was a great inspiration for me as I was able to work with talented Artists from around the world.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

I would say just keep going, don’t be distracted or discouraged. Try to get your music out there through social media platforms and take advice from those in the know.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

Two Producers spring to mind ME13 and Jason Julian.

Some recording artists to check out would be:

Jordan Adetunji

Malie

Dina Ayada

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Crop Circle 3 - Nines

Gift & Curse - Gunna

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I enjoy long nature walks to clear my mind and to have a bit of alone time.

10. Name three things you can't live without when in the studio?

A positive environment is essential. The mood needs to be upbeat and it helps if there are not too many people in the studio. Also receiving honest feedback on what is working and what is not.

I like to have a few refreshments on hand.

I also enjoy working in a comfortable and warm space, as this helps me to achieve much more in terms of creativity.
