Cody Pepper - Chemical Oasis (Album)

Hot on the heels of her first single “Make A Wish”, “I Tried To Please” and “The Flute Opening” that altogether received support among different channels including Jess Iszatt on BBC Introducing London, Tom Robinson on 6 Music, Dan Alani on Reprezent Radio but also Charles Ashcroft from Record Collector and Domino Records on Spotify, Cody Pepper prepares to deliver her debut album Chemical Oasis due for release on October 20th.

Entirely produced by the brilliant Basile Lacroix-Boettcher who brought his Aphex Twin and JPEG Mafia’s influences to the table, the record is an eclectic bliss of genres and colours.

Starting the immersion with the distorted, autotuned and captivating “Yoga”, Chemical Oasis is a rollercoaster of emotions. The second track is the deep, repetitive, visceral and rock statement about self esteem “I Tried To Please”. It is followed by “Salt and Sweet” glorifying summertime to then go to the most experimental and contemporan museum-ready song of the record. In “What Time Is It”, Cody asks when she’ll finally be able to let go, there’s anger and rage in there which takes form within “Funk Funky Funkish”. Blessed with the raging saxophone of Basile’s friend Marc Jean, Cody Pepper is barely included in that track while still so well represented. From not many Pepper, the next song is full of her flute offering the most cinematic song on the LP. It’s a moment of peace and rest. Ready to go again, it’s the dancy “Make A Wish that follows to the doubtful “I’m Not That Nice” featuring experimental London-based Portuguese artist anrimeal (BBC 3 Late Junction, The Wire, The Quietus, Folk Radio) and finish on the strong and deep “You Don’t Need To Cry”.

Cody Pepper aka Pauline Janier hails from Besancon, a small artsy city (Victor Hugo, Courbet) in the east of France but relocated to London six years ago where she’s been the lead singer and flutist of the band Zebrah that was picked up by Rolling Stone Mexico as "artist you need to know" for their debut EP Stripes in 2021 and just opened for CLASH Magazine’s New Wave artist Sol Paradise and Dream Wife’s openers The Kobras.
