TjTUCKER sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:
1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?
I have to go back to my earliest inspirations being my family. Growing up in a music-loving, god-fearing house I was raised on Traditional African jazz, G-Funk and soul music was also always in heavy rotation in the house. My artistry really began in the church and school choir.
2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?
I wouldn't say that I'm too influenced by others as much as I used to be, The team is very committed to etching our own path but I'd love to work with producers CardoGotWings, The Alchemist, JayTrench and DJ Dahi. Whereas collaborations with artists like Curren$y, Little Simz, Logic and Larry June would be legendary!!
3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?
Most definitely, our label HeroesNeverDie "HND" has a couple of works on the stove right now: we're finishing up an EP titled 'Showcase" with some really great features and production from PRCL., AKDigital on that piece of work.
There is also an acoustic body of work that could be coming through in the near future.
Our Spotify podcast that I host 'Irrelevant Rambling' is in full swing and we're actively looking to have more guest episodes on the show.
4. How would you describe your sound?
I struggle to box my sound into any set genre or box. I prefer leaving that open to interpretation. But I'd say my sound is 'Lifestyle' music. Music to live your life to. I'd like to think I provide music that can serve as a background to many of life's moments. Sending a positive message of "You're not alone, crazy or wrong - I've been there too".
5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?
So far, my proudest moment would be performing overseas in Italy, Verona which was incredible. Respect to MC/Artist 'BLACKSON' for bringing me out to his home, beautiful people. I look forward to going back & touching the rest of the World with this music.
6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?
The best advice I can give to you is, just make sure whatever you're doing your heart is at the core. Do it for you, not for a "come-up" and keep the loved ones close 'No man is an island'. Stay prayed up.
7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?
Most definitely keep an eye on SKOTT3REE, AKDigital, Joe Garratt, Phenicia, and Tone Central! These guys are doing a lot up here in Yorkshire. The land should definitely take notice.
8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?
Currently, I'm in my classic bag so Sona Jobarteh - Fasiya, Curren$y - Spring Clean 2, Skott 3ree - Wake up, Try Again, Logic - College Park.
9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?
Outside of music, I'm heavy on my wellness & health (Basketball, working out), keeping the house plants green, growing veg, got a healthy 90-day streak going on Duolingo. You can find me talking about all this and more on my Podcast 'Irrelevant Rambling'.
