Relyae - Flow State (EP)

Singer and multi-instrumentalist Relyae is opening the vault with his debut EP: ‘Flow State’ is a collection of mellow funk/R’n’B blends that puts him right next to musical peers like CARRTOONS, Tom Misch, Winston Surfshirt or FKJ. Following the online buzz he has been creating with effortless jams, the Brookyln-based multitalent delivers butter smooth tunes that touch themes like self-discovery, resilience and balance.

Opening track ‘Moonlight’ sees crisp drums, dreamy keys and classic funk motifs meld with Thundercat-esque falsetto vocals, creating a symphony of soulful sonics. On the track, Relyae explains: “This song came from memories at a highschool dance. Obviously I was nervous about seeing a girl I had a crush on, but at the end of the day all I wanted to do was dance.”

Next up, ‘Focus’ opens up the pocket ever so slightly - as gliding rhodes chords and tender vocals roll against disco guitar progressions.

The EP’s title track reinterprets elements of Bossa Nova, giving it an added spring to its step. Taking the electric relaxation to its next level, ‘Back In Time’ employs lovers-rock chords against a rock steady beat, before ‘Burn’ brings the record to a blissful close. The result of a gifted musician hitting their artistic stride, this is a perfect record to watch the world float past.

If you're a fan of Tom Misch, CARRTOONS, FKJ, Winston Surfshirt or Toro Y Moi, you should give this one a listen!
