Hotel - Call of the Void (Album)

Sydney creative - Andrew Tudehope who releases music under the moniker - HOTEL -  releases his much anticipated debut Album - Call of the Void.

The ten track album is released through Sydney record label - YEAH NAH YEAH, and contains a beautiful crafted dichotomy of electronic punk heaters such as “undercover lover”, “sando” and loose change which can find themselves on dancefloors and being blasted on summer days, along with downtempo tracks such as “getting home alright”, “c’est la vie” and “casa del disco” which feel like one should be sipping on a negroni and basking in the sun.

What is exciting about this release for fans and new listeners alike is Hotel’s ability to write music that spans styles and yet all fits together into one bouquet of music that is tied together by poignant and conversational lyrics and a consideration in songwriting that leads to instantly catchy music. Call of the Void follows on from HOTEL’s debut EP - Night Swim and shows a maturity from his last release as the artist looks into themes of love, money, friendships and relaxation and places these themes over music which is crafted with a rich tapestry of melodies and rhythms that are not bound by limits that most might face.

Tudehope has shown that an artist does not need to limit themselves to one sound or genre to create a comprehensive body of work that is as much relatable as it is easy to lose yourself in. It is a journey through the everyday aspects of life, filled with energy and passion.

HOTEL is no stranger to collaborations and CALL OF THE VOID brings along a number of his finest yet with Nicholas (Johnny Hunter), Obi ill, Gabriella Cohen, Billy Gunns, Josh Dives, Uncle Boy and Alaistair Johnston creating some beautiful strokes on the canvas of music laid out by hotel.

Tudehope evokes feelings and soundscapes that evoke the energy of New York acts like the  TOM TOM CLUB and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, whilst dabbling in grooves which land in a space reminiscent of SADE and Mild High Club. The album is accompanied by dazzling visuals that seem to have each artwork culminating in rooms that make up a dazzling beautiful home. Tudehope has considered these aspects to create a succinct body of work that is an instant classic.

Call of the Void by Hotel might be one of this year's most finely curated releases and shows an evolution in the artist that highlights the fact that HOTEL artist is one of the most interesting songwriters around.
