Bel Cobain - Unlikely (Single)
Singer-songwriter Bel Cobain drops her new single ‘Unlikely’. Co-produced with Naples-born producer Dani Diadato, ‘Unlikely’ was written and created during a trip Bel took to Mexico earlier this year with friends. During her stay - during which Bel visited Mexico City and Oaxaca - the group began to encounter a series of paranormal activities and spiritual signs everywhere they went. Whilst staying at an artist's house, Bel picked up a guitar, and the hypnotic bassline and lyrics for ‘Unlikely’ began to pour out of her. Following that, every time Bel would play the song, something eerie would happen to the extent she and the group had to leave the house altogether. The poignant lyrics, such as ‘feeling sorry for my people who got rigged by the systematic default’ reflect on what Bel saw throughout the trip and how the country's indigenous people have been affected. The stand-out lyric ‘the more you know, the less you know’ becomes Bel’s ethos around the whole project. ‘Unlikely’ combines the timeless essence of Jazz with a fresh and invigorating twist combined with lively rhythm and punchy poetic melodies.
An air of mystique has always surrounded Bel, but she is her true, most content and confident when performing on stage. Bel broke onto the scene in 2019 with ‘Introverted Stoner’ and has performed at Love Saves The Day, Love Supreme, Jazz Cafe, Roundhouse, and many more. Growing up in London, she decided recently to reside outside the capital near the sea to escape the chaos of the city she was born in. Bel draws inspiration from some greats, including Pink Floyd, Kate Bush, Angie Stone, Fela Kuti and Jill Scott, and cuts through the noise with her radical thinking and music style.
Already gaining support from the likes of COLORS, The Line Of Best Fit, Guap, and Wonderland, to name a few, with ‘Pressure To Exist’ that dropped last month, Bel’s forthcoming EP ‘Radical Forgiveness’ is set to leave a strong mark on the scene. The project has been a long time coming, and Bel is excited to share it with the world, finding herself in a free and happy headspace. Bel's music is the perfect antidote for our over-complicated world, and her desire to sing and share her music is refreshing and unlike any other. Bel’s motivation comes from within and is just pure love for music, art and all things creative.
