Mackenta - Life on Venus (EP)

Tour-de-force of Toronto’s R&B and hip-hop scene Mackenta is here to make her mark on a global scale with a fresh new genre-blending EP entitled “LIFE ON VENUS”. The release is composed of six tracks, all of which demonstrate Mackenta’s talent as a songwriter, rapper, and singer.

Following the success of previously released singles “PLAY” and “WHAT’S THE POINT?”, this Canadian rising star aims to sign, seal and push the envelope with this six-track offering, which features sensational focus track “FLYING”. Fittingly, this focus track is all about manifesting and following your dreams, especially during those times when you aren’t feeling as empowered as you’d like. Unlike many of Mackenta’s tracks which are about venting her emotions through the catharsis of soulful singing and punchy rapping, ‘FLYING’ envisions how she wants to feel in a perfect world. It’s that kind of daydreaming nature that comes through in the tranquil production, alluring melodies and wishful vocal tones. Combining contemporary R&B brushstrokes with neo-soul and even a splash of pop, ‘FLYING’ embodies confidence, and captures Mackenta’s optimism. As she says, “I believe our words have a lot of power and I wanted to channel that into a positive direction.”

Elsewhere on the EP, Mackenta's vocals seamlessly traverse between laid-back R&B and captivating rap verses. 'WHAT’S THE POINT?' delves into the raw feelings of a breakup while 'VENU$' celebrates female solidarity with a throwback R&B vibe. 'PLAY' blends desires for independence and affection, 'DELUSIONAL' adds playful rap skills, and she sets the scene in moody number ‘IT’S RAINING’.

With sincere storytelling, Mackenta molds the broken pieces of her life into a healing narrative that encourages authenticity and empowerment. The project, a manifestation of her confidence and untapped potential, mirrors the multifaceted nature of womanhood, embracing both joy and rawness.
