Jeffrey the KiDDD - Stop It! (Official Video) + Interview

UK RnB star and K-pop songwriter Jeffrey the KiDDD unveils his dazzling debut single ‘Stop It!’, out now.

Constructing a slick RnB groove around funk guitars, booming bass and Jeffrey the KiDDD’s virtuoso vocals, ‘Stop It!’ is an uptempo bop that oozes with cool. Announcing this up-and-coming artist in style, the track benefits from the craftsmanship of two producers who have big followings on Youtube, Ocean (with a music video for ‘Stop It!’ just published on his channel) and Simon Servida, as well as co-writing from Bobii Lewis, another prolific singer songwriter for K-pop artists.

“The single is about honesty and communication in a 'non exclusive' relationship”,  the singer songwriter says. “One side has made it clear what their intentions are from the jump, whilst the other is being hopeful for it to go on to be something more concrete; which may never be. All in all it results in being frustrated by saying the same things over and over - hence the title ‘Stop It’.”

Born and raised in London, singer songwriter Jeffrey the KiDDD brings his sultry vocals and tongue-in-cheek lyrics that are bound to leave you with all of the feels. The all around entertainer delivers the 90s/early 00s R&B we love, reimagined in today’s world of music.

With K-pop rising in the Western world of music and culture, Jeffrey the KiDDD has written songs for some of their biggest groups. 2021 saw the release of ‘Miracle’, a song co-written by Jeffrey for popular boy band WayV. The music video has since gained over 8.7 million views on Youtube.

Slated for a 2024 release, Diary of a F*ck Boy is the title of Jeffrey’s first full body of work - a conceptual EP that narrates themes of lust and temptation.

Until then, the hype continues to build around this unique artist. With singles like ‘Stop It!’, there’ll be no stopping Jeffrey the KiDDD’s meteoric rise.

Jeffrey The KiDDD sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer 10 Questions with us:

1. So tell me how did it all begin, what sparked your passion for music?

I say this all the time. Michael Jackson. This is the beginning, middle and end for me. From Motown 25 to Thriller yeah this guy was a genius.

Growing up I was the household and neighbourhood Michael Jackson, my aunt would call me Jeffrey Jackson! It was that deep, one time I had a bad accident, I ended up in hospital for a while. They had to send me home because apparently I was disturbing other patients in my ward, just singing Michael Jackson songs in the night!

2. How would you describe your sound?

I would say it's a vibe..literally! I love heavy beats and stuff that makes you want to move, I have a street dance background so instrumentals to me and beats in general are key! I'm heavily influenced by the music I grew up on (90's/00's) so that sound and style is what you'll hear throughout my music, not that it's dated but I definitely like to bring back nostalgic feels. Whether that be in the harmony choices or even melodies it will for sure make you feel like you're listening to a throwback but  with a modern twist.

3. Who/what do you consider to be the biggest influence on your music?

Apart from Michael Jackson, I would say Usher and Destiny's Child. I would also say Craig David has played a big part too! Especially being from the UK and showcasing his fast rap/singing style that I'm also bringing in my music. I love Lauryn Hill, Ludacris and Busta Rhymes, their flows and pockets in their delivery were just second to none.

4. What’s the proudest moment to date for you as an artist?

I believe everything that is happening now to be honest. Releasing my first song and it being played and supported by BBC 1xtra and BBC Introducing. Having 2 radio spins in one day for me was crazy! Also the music videos to my songs I'm super proud of, they took alot of planning and hard executing which I am used to but it's always a different level of concentration when it's your own thing. I've been doing this for a minute now and I'm constantly learning about myself and collaborating with others, it's so crazy how much of a difference it makes when you have a team of people that are working on the same goal as you are. I'm very grateful and ready to continue creating more with my art.

5. Name three things you can’t live without?

God, Family and Salad Cream on Jellof Rice!

6. Name 3 people you would love to work with and why?

Wow..this is going to be fun..

I would love to work with Kaytranada and Amine. Their joint project is so dope! I feel their energy and vibe, I think I could be a good asset..me being that London boy you know.

Erm.. I love Lil Simz, I think she is an incredible and inspirational artist, she's paved the way for many and is still pushing the boundary. I don't care if you don't get her or understand how sick of a lyricist she is-she's too cold!

J Hus is most definitely in the mix for sure! I just think he's so dope, like the way he incorporates culture and the accent too. I love it! It's real and raw.

7. You’ve just released your First single “Stop it” talk us through your new work and what we should expect in the future?

Yes, so I have just released 'Stop It!' from my debut project 'Diary of a Fxck Boy!'. The single is talking about being in a non exclusive relationship. I miss the storytelling in music, I find as a songwriter and artist it is fascinating how you can paint a picture and a story and colour it in with melodies and beats. This is what I believe I have done with this song and project, I didn't want to lean on the classic 'love song' topics. I wanted something that was edgy, and also uncomfortable to talk about. There are people living this life that society deems as not right, regardless of anyone's belief, I am letting you know from the jump what this is before you get in; it's the honesty and truth that some can't handle.

My EP is out next year and I can't wait to play it live as well as give you more visuals. It's an exciting time for me as there's just so much going on, my baby is finally coming in 2024 and it's been cooking so get ready for some more big vibes and stories for sure.

8. How would you describe your music?

My music is very R&B, it's an easy listen. You can play it to get ready for a party, or a motive its that type that you can instantly get in a good mood for.

I try to include elements that you wouldn't normally expect just so I'm ticking all boxes.

9. What’s the album you play more than any other?

Michael Jackson 'Bad' and Beyonce 'BDAY'. I kid you not I know the whole tracklist off by heart. The music and arrangements on these bad boy albums..yoo!!

Darkchild, Quincy Jones, Swizz Beats, Timbo, they're all my favourite producers. And I know for some people it could be like why these albums but as a child that grew up watching MTV, these albums had great music videos that went with the album. Michael had the 'Moonwalker' movie and Beyonce did something crazy like every song had a video which was a moment in time before the days of Youtube and TikTok. I think overall it was just good music that could never be forgotten or replaced.

10. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Haha the mad music game! Yea I always get asked how to get into music and the real answer is to just go for it. What's the worst that can happen?

There's no point in overthinking it, just do it! We're all human, we all have to figure it out, I know it seems as though it looks easy online and stuff but just believe in your sauce and keep going. You have to put in the work and really just respect the journey and hustle because it really isn't a walk in the park, like everything has its ups and downs but if it makes you happy and you can see yourself in it then don't let fear hold you back. You've got this.
