West London-hailing artist Zush is ready to wrap up the year with a punchy, energy-charged release entitled “Playing For Keeps”. The track is Zush’s second release this season following his recent single “We Got The Sauce” which has been very well received by his audience.

“Playing For Keeps” is a statement of the West London artist’s approach on music in the new year and the energy that he is planning on releasing into the scene. With big plans for his career in 2024, he is about to put himself in the spotlight and take over with his versatile flow, sharp lyricism and unique choice of beats.

Zush has been dubbing with music for over a decade, his musical journey beginning in secondary school when his friends started a rap group. Zush soon started creating beats and DJ for them and it wasn’t long before that he also got into writing and rapping. At the same time he was also playing drums for a steel band with whom he got to tour internationally, which was what influenced and cemented his passion for music.

The likes of Nas, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliot and Pharell also played a major role in Zush’s preference for hip hop as well as his uncle who was a DJ collecting and playing certain records around him when he was growing up. “Playing for Keeps” is not only a testament to Zush’s love for hip hop but also to his Caribbean heritage as he skilfully switches up his English accent on the chorus giving the song a touch of Caribbean flavour.

The track was born as a challenge for Zush as the beat forced him to try a new flow and deliver his lyrics with a different cadence than usual which put him to the test, which he passed effortlessly. The energy of the track also fits in perfectly with the state of mind that Zush has been in since then which is playing for keeps as the title suggests, therefore it is fair to say that this song is quite personal to him.
