Rising UK Hip-Hop artist Kwoli Black releases his new single, 'Imposter' via independent label TLD Records. Produced by long-term collaborator and close friend, JSTRNGS (Ojerime/Sneakbo), 'Imposter' is an introspective track with a powerful violin opening and heartfelt monologue from Kwoli announcing himself with fire in his belly, self-assured and clear-eyed. Directed by Kente Kwame the accompanying visual sees Kwoli with a burning desire to succeed and connect with the London rap scene, his sharp voice piercing through the mesmerising JSTRNGS beat. 'Imposter' is ushering in an ambitious new era for the rapper who describes his music as medicine, Speaking on the single Kwoli said: “This song is my swan song to a chapter of feeling like I’m an imposter in this scene. It signals the acceptance of my feelings but also the end of me just resigning to them. It’s for all the artists and creatives, or anyone that has felt not quite good enough or questioned if they will ever make it. Fuck that. We will.”

Kwoli has had a fascination with words from an early age. Through reading the likes of Rudy Francisco, Reyna Biddy, and Alysia Harris, his poetic ideas transpired into his writing poems. His writing progressed into performing at spoken word shows, but it wasn't until producer and close friend JSTRNGS heard him perform Ab-Soul's ‘Sapiosexual’, that he was encouraged to explore rap music. Kwoli's musical influences include Tyler the Creator, Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, and, closer to home, Kojey Radical and Loyle Carner. The individuality of these artists has pushed him musically and given him confidence in his distinct sound and evolution as an artist. Kwoli formed a close bond with Kojey during lockdown over music and gaming, resulting in a friendship that led to Kwoli supporting him on his UK tour and beyond.

Honing his craft over the past few years, Kwoli refuses to conform with his last EP, 'Call Me When It's Over' proving his versatility by blending elements of Rap, R&B, and beyond. Following this EP, Kwoli has been on a journey of self-discovery and has arrived at a new phase in his life, personally and professionally. His vulnerable single, 'Wake Up' featuring Lex Amor, was highly acclaimed and led to support from tastemakers including Romesh Ranganathan, COLORS, Clash, and Notion. On the follow-up single, 'Cotch Freestyle', which dropped earlier this year, Kwoli expanded his raw and luxurious sound. He is an artist who has become renowned for thought-provoking and vulnerable lyrics, 'Cotch Freestyle' flipped the script and showed Kwoli in full Rap mode, delivering confident vivid bars with a determination to succeed. Like some of the best writers, he can be convincingly charming, poignant, or vulnerable, and often, he's all three at once. In October, Kwoli performed at Clash Magazine's 'Next Wave' event and announced that he will be supporting Mercys Cartel at her London show in November. Kwoli has also revealed that he is now a Converse All-Star with more to announce imminently.
