Aasher - betray me. (Single)
Just over a year since the release of his critically acclaimed debut album S.H.I.F.T, which has garnered over two million streams, and helped the fast-rising talent sell out an eight city US tour earlier this year, North Carolina rap artist, songwriter, and producer AASHER is back with a captivating new single titled ‘betray me.’.
Written by Aasher himself, and co-produced with Netherlands beatsmith Woodpecker, who has also worked with Young Thug, Lil Tjay, $NOT, and Flo Milli, among others, ‘betray me’ ushers in an exciting new musical universe for Aasher as the Charlotte native begins to tease towards his highly anticipated sophomore project, which is arriving early 2024.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘betray me’, Aasher says, “This record represents a sort of rebirth for me as a person and as an artist. ‘betray me’ deals with a first-hand experience of betrayal, and the anger it brews inside. The song shows the duality of my feelings of rage by the act of deception, and my deep sadness that’s been colonized through regret for trusting certain people. Instead of turning to my initial inclination towards vengeance, I found it better to express myself through a creative outlet. The betrayal was something that opened my eyes to the duplicity from those closest to me, but it also pushed me into exploring new soundscapes for this new era of my music – picture gangbanging on a Sunday.”
Recommended if you like the sounds of Kendrick Lamar or Kanye West, DC-based Charlotte native Aasher stands out for his exceptional storytelling and dynamic delivery. Starting his musical journey at the age of four and later diving deep into rap music, the 21-year-old rap riser burst onto the scene last year with his critically acclaimed debut album S.H.I.F.T. Released in collaboration with global indie label EMPIRE, the project saw Aasher catching the attention of revered hip-hop stables including Roc Nation, Dreamville, and TDE, while also garnering co-signs from Meek Mill, and comparisons with Jay-Z. As he readies for a highly anticipated new project in 2024, Aasher is excited to show fans and critics alike exactly why he is being tipped for hip-hop greatness, starting with his new single ‘betray me’.
