Jed Holland - Shelter (Official Video)

Jed Holland's return with the single "Shelter" marks not only a musical release but a significant chapter in his artistic evolution. The delicate yet powerful composition reflects Jed's journey from a young violin learner inspired by the Folk sounds of household icons like Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, and Joni Mitchell to a seasoned songwriter and performer.

The EP, slated for early 2024, acts as a canvas where Jed's artistic brush paints strokes of his diverse musical influences. The consistent soft tone in "Shelter", shines above a neo-soul groove with an overall moody felt production. The track is written in a polished pop arrangement, yet marinated in soul and jazz undertones.

Jed's upbringing in rural Essex, surrounded by the Folk-influenced ambiance at home, laid the foundation for his musical prowess. His early foray into songwriting at the age of 13, coupled with the unique style of violin playing, adds a personal touch to each composition. The indie-folk band with his older brother served as a musical apprenticeship, resulting in a record deal at the age of 16 and a subsequent six-year journey.

The EP not only encapsulates Jed's individual growth but also his collaborative spirit, evident in his work as a session player for a diverse array of artists. His experiences with names like Cavetown, Sam Wills, James Smith and more, bring a wealth of musical diversity to the upcoming release.

Jed tells us, ''Shelter' was written 6 years ago just after I'd left college and moved to Leeds for uni. The song alludes to a common internal conflict I'd go through during periods where I felt particularly anxious or unstable in my mood - my natural 'self protection' response when I felt like this would often be to shut myself away from others which would always result in me feeling even more lonely and isolated than I did before. During these periods, another part of me would be simultaneously fighting to convince myself to go outside and see people which I knew would probably help, but doing this felt like a huge mountain to climb when I'd already developed a habit of becoming so reclusive.'
