Nat Oaks - Hard To Forget (Single)
Nat Oaks is back with an anthemic new single entitled ‘Hard To Forget’. The beat is fronted by a mighty horn section that will have you taking the volume up a notch, backed up with a soft electric piano hum. Lacing the track with unparalleled energy come complex, hard-hitting drum patterns, with crisp snares and rich 808 kick punching through. Vocally, Nat Oaks shines through the backdrop, with infectious flows and catchy lyricism that feeds into the intensity of the track. It’s confident and unapologetic from start to finish, with an atmosphere that builds to a cinematic scale.
On the new single and what’s to come in the following months, Nat shares: “I’ve been through a lot of changes during 2023. I went to the studio still feeling quite rough about my breakup, but also didn’t want to write an inevitable sad song about it. I was super inspired by Ants Live’s hardcore, self-indulgent yet confident style and really wanted that to come through. I do believe that you can choose how to react to different situations and either let them consume you or make you. I knew I wanted a track that I could blast out of the car speakers, and I’m happy it’s this.
This is the first single from my incoming sophomore EP. It’s a body of music I’m very proud of, and look forward to playing live at festivals.”
Nat Oaks, born in Ghana, raised in Britain, showcases alternative hip-hop, neo-soul and low-fidelity. Fresh out of the South-West and inspired by the history of Trip-Hop, Nat Oaks moved to Bristol in 2020. Her music takes inspiration from Loyle Carner’s earnestness, flow from Lauryn Hill and lyricism from Frank Ocean.
Through a heavily musical upbringing, her love of writing started at the age of 10, where her attraction to words became apparent to everyone. Majorly influenced by Lauryn Hill’s album: ‘Miseducation’, Nat describes it as “the first album that launched [her] dream to pursue music”; the main objective being to “connect with the audience”; creating something you can completely “immerse yourself in”. There’s no doubt that you’ll unwind within the rhythmic melody, abstract lyrics and idiosyncratic sound.
