Josiah Soren ft: Squallé - Holy Land (Single)

Holy Land feat. Squallé” is the new single from Atlanta-based bassist, beatmaker, and author Josiah Soren. The track is taken from the upcoming album ‘Samurai’ (out 12th January), following the release of previous single “AEIOUY feat. Shalom Little & DK” which saw support from Bandcamp Weekly, BobaFatt (Soho Radio), Karl Bos (Soho Radio), WYEP Pittsburg and RTBF Belgium.

Meeting at the intersection between Jazz and Hip Hop, the album was produced with an emphasis on elevating Black voices. ‘Samurai’ was written alongside Kamaal Williams bandmember Marquinn Mason, Jacob Hurlock, and Dallas Dawson, with the full band featuring musicians who follow the Atlanta school of “Reverence” – a culture of respect, tolerance, and freedom.

“Holy Land” sees Altanta/Athens based MC Squallé push the envelope and motivate the listener to cement their place in their Holy Land. Written with careful intention and heavy thought, every bar and metaphor is utilised as a tool to deliver the message of the track. “Whether I’m here or not, I gain solace in knowing I’ll be remembered,” he muses, “Holy Land can be any land or space that gives you peace and openness”. Speaking of the collaborative and community feel of the ‘Samurai’ recording project, Squallé adds: “It was dope seeing other artists and their processes. Exchanging ideas and allowing the power of art to drive us. There were artists from many different places, walks of life, and cultures all under one roof existing in peace – stimulated by the pure love of music”. Punctuated with glistening keys and harmonies that build and layer with a sax outro, the result is truly something resonates with a pure love of music and creation.
