Planet Giza ft: Saba - WYD (Single)

Off the back of their October EP release You Don’t Understand, exciting Montreal based hip-hop outfit Planet Giza have teamed up with Chicago’s hottest rap talent Saba for new single ‘WYD’, out today via AWAL.

Sparking irresistible 90s nostalgia through Timbaland-reminiscent adlibs blended effortlessly with a modern edge through slick groove-led production by the trio’s Rami B and DoomX, ‘WYD’ displays Planet Giza’s signature jazz-infused/spacey vibe, interlaced with sharp flows from Planet Giza’s Tony Stone, and an outstanding guest verse from Saba. The tune touches on the story of a smooth operator meeting his match, and his player persona quickly dissolving by the undeniable chemistry they discover.

Touching on the making of the song, Planet Giza explained, “when we presented it to Saba in the studio, he understood right away and started writing this amazing verse. Big shoutout to him for what was an inspiring session.”

With a crazed audience that stretches far beyond the Canadian borders, the group notably sold out their headline show at London’s Peckham Audio last year, which featured a guest appearance from UK rap icon Kojey Radical. With many more plans in the pipeline, ‘WYD’ is just the beginning of this next journey for Planet Giza.

Having worked with a range of seminal artists and producers, from Kaytranada to Mick Jenkins to GoldLink, Planet Giza quickly made a name for themselves as the Montreal hip-hop group to watch. With a sound they attribute to the diverse mix of cultures that Montreal has to offer, they quickly rose to fame with singles such as ‘Brk Frm Nrml’ and ‘When The Moving Stops’. Having performed at the iconic Montreal Jazz Festival, the group effortlessly cross musical styles and genres, allowing them to thrive in a variety of sectors, from contemporary jazz to hard US rap.

In the words of Planet Giza themselves: “This is only the first single on the album. Hope you're ready, cause we are.”
