SONGER ft: D Double E - 4:59 (Official Video)

Rising from Reading yet resonating across the breadth and width of the UK, 22-year-old rapper SONGER releases his single “4:59” ft D Double E with justified confidence, this February 17th.

SONGER’s story so far is an incredible one. Quietly building his narrative from his ‘shed’ in his family’s back garden, Reading, the young artist has recorded three of the most watched BL@CKBOX freestyles of all time (+35 million views), amassed over 85 million streams across DSP's - with little-to-no editorial playlist support, sold out a UK headline tour - without a booking agent, and built a cult-like following of incredibly die- hard fans, all without a label. Credit is due to the quality of SONGER’s artistry.

“4:59” bridges the gap between a more than enviable 2022 and a very exciting 2023. Closing the end of last year with the first instalment to his forthcoming album, “Love Is A Lottery”, and an exhilarating sold-out debut headline tour (in minutes + extra London date added due to demand) which saw fans spilling on to SONGER’s stage up and down the UK, “4:59” lands on yearning ears.

Undeniably one of grimes greatest MC’s, D Double E, joins SONGER on the second instalment ahead of the album. With an infectious percussive, shuffled rhythm and syncopated hi-hats, the Garage beat lends itself a lively bed for SONGER’s playful lyricism, later followed by D Double E’s contributions. In his own words, SONGER explains; “4:59” is an instant feel-good song, with a garage style and lyrics that transport you to happy memories of partying and friendship. The combination of a new school artist and legendary MC create an atmosphere to boost any situation, no matter who you are.”

Approaching rap with sophisticated penmanship and conscious lyricism, SONGER creates his own brand of ‘wordsmith’. While much the UK scene is dominated by bars about sex, money, cars and drugs, SONGER prefers subject matters which are closer to his own experiences. “I’ll go through phases where I’ll have poor mental health. I’ll get anxiety. I don’t wanna say I’ve been depressed but... close enough init.”. He can rap over any beat — hip- hop, garage, drum & bass — and is as natural a lyricist as you’ll find in the UK.

The album, “SKALA”, will release this spring 2023 ahead of an exciting festival season with Reading & Leeds (Radio 1xta Stage), Longitude (main stage), Nass, already announced, and more to come.
