Benita’s musical journey is one of perseverance and inspiration. The Toronto artist has made a name for herself in the city’s music scene from her raw talent and her heavy involvement in the local R&B community. From singing backup for Daniel Caesar on his Freudian tour to opening for Savannah Ré, Benita has undoubtedly made her mark on Toronto. With the release of her 2022 EP “Scarlett”, Benita showed her confidence and sensuality through a series of powerful R&B grooves. Now, Benita has made her return with an emotional and stripped back 2-pack titled “The Other Side Through The Hills”.

Harrowing and intimate, “The Other Side Through the Hills” shows a fresh and personal side to Benita not explored through her music before. “The Other Side Through The Hills is a 2 song package gifted from me to my listeners in hopes of letting them know that you are not alone in those feelings of discouragement and numbness”, states Benita. Sun-soaked and delicate, Benita's velvet soft vocals glide over warm acoustic guitar and reverb-drenched lofi beats throughout the project. Both songs serve as thematic foils to each other, painting a picture of hopelessness, depression, growth and motivation.

“The Other Side” is a melancholy ballad, infused with rich strings and velvet-smooth vocals. In contrast, “Through the Hills” tells the story of the light at the end of the tunnel, where Benita reflects on how far she has come with an optimistic outlook for her future. With touching moments of her childhood and soundbites of her family scattered throughout, “The Other Side Through the Hills” is an immensely profound look into the inner workings of Benita’s Mind. “I wanted to end this 2 pack on a hopeful note because of how far I’ve come and how I’ve realised when things get bad... It makes room for bigger and better things” .
