JED ft: Brieya - Pride Will Win (Single)

This is one of those tracks that you know you’re going to enjoy from the first few seconds. It opens with a beautiful piano solo by JustDan before being joined by Brieya’s, frankly gorgeous and message laden, vocals. JED comes in with bars I think a lot of us can relate to ‘I’m from a place where the solution is to buy a bag’. Straight away you know they’ve got something to say.

The track deals with male mental health and how, even now when we’re all supposed to be so open, the majority of people bury themselves in work or drugs or drink just to get by. He talks about worshipping the false god of capitalism in an attempt to banish unhappiness and the confusion and disappointment when the lie is revealed. JED has a sort of Dave-esque way of looking at the truths hidden in the fabric of the everyday grind. He brings it to a close by bringing up what is, all too often, the outcome of lives lived in silence and shame. While he’s talking about his experience and what he knows of male issues, I think anyone can relate to what he has to say.

The only area I would have loved to hear a bit more maturity in is the beats but the overall composition shines. In the moments when the vocals, rap and piano are layered it’s done so skilfully that they work together but all have space. It gives it an almost orchestral quality. I hope a lot of people hear this track and its message.
