IN PICS: Terri Walker @ BRIX LDN 03/03 + I'm Not The One (Single) 10 Questions

UK R&B and Soul singer-songwriter Terri Walker, today releases her brand-new single, ‘I’m Not The One’ via Wings of a Hummingbird Records/Believe UK. The single follows on from the recently released ‘Finally Over You’ which is the lead track from her upcoming album titled ‘My Love Story’ that will be released April 14th.

Produced by longtime friends and collaborators Children of Zeus (Tyler Daley & Konny Kon), ‘I’m Not The One’ is Terri's final tease to the eagerly awaited body of work that comes 4 years after her last album. The single is a captivating blend of Terri’s seamless vocals alongside a soulful female led choir. Showcasing a flavor of her signature R&B groove, Terri talks about that feeling of knowing the person you are in a relationship with is not who you are meant to be with and expresses the importance of honesty and not to ‘live a lie’.

Ahead of Terri’s upcoming album, ‘I’m Not The One’ comes shortly after dropping celebratory track ‘Finally Over You’. The forthcoming album ‘My Love Story’ is set to mark 20 years to the day of her debut release – the 2003 critically-acclaimed, Def Soul debut project ‘Untitled’. The South-London artist gained national and international accolades from the 14 track album that featured American rapper Mos Def and Blueblood. Untitled’ was nominated for MOBOs 2003 Best Album alongside the likes of Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and 50 Cent. Continuing the project's success Terri received additional nominations that year for Best Newcomer, Best R&B Act, UK Act of the Year and ‘Untitled’ was further acclaimed when it was nominated for the 2003 Mercury Music Prize.

Terri said of the single: “‘I’m Not The One’ is part two of the song, ‘Fake’ from my debut album, “Untitled”. I’m reminding everyone, who may have forgotten or didn’t know that I will, never live a lie. I simply don't know how to!”

Terri sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

My love for music started with my mother. She used to play music, from early mornings, to late at night. I guess I kind of absorbed it. Like osmosis.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

One of my first and biggest inspirations was Whitney Houston. I remember seeing her for the first time and being blown away. Her confidence, delivery, and beauty. Mesmerised me instantly. Especially when I heard, “the greatest love of all”. It instilled a sense of love and pride in myself. After her, it was Lauryn Hill, India Arie, Chaka Khan, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Oleta Adams, Deseree, Anita Baker, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight. Basically, all the women, who had a strong message and a voice, like no other.

In regards to wanting to work with, in the future. Anyone that inspires me. Which is anyone, who is in their own lane.

3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

Right now, my focus is on this album ‘My Love Story’ out in April, that I’m releasing on my own label. It’s something I’m not going to rush. So, anything that aligns with it I’m going to give it a try. So no concrete plans, I’m just trusting the process if it feels right.

Soulful.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Children of Zeus and melonyx.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?
