KdoubleM - Own Lane (Official Video) + 10 Questions

Own Lane’ is definitely KdoubleM’s most personal song to date. He talks about how he doesn’t care about how people perceive him, as long as he follows his own path- not other people’s. KdoubleM say’s: “It’s very easy to be led astray by bad influences who’ll steer you in the wrong direction, especially as a teenager living in London, It’s vital to remain strong willed and not let peer pressure control you”.

Throughout his teenage years, he had turbulent experiences which could’ve led him down the wrong road but he stayed true to himself and remained in his own lane. KdoubleM talks about ‘breaking free’ which refers to breaking a vicious cycle, but also refers to how he is separating himself from the rest so that he can chase his dreams.

The beat he chose for Own Lane is predominantly made up of piano as it fit’s nicely with the melodic vibe of the song. KdoubleM goes on to sayMy older sister added beautiful backing  vocals which enhanced the sound of the track too”.

KdoubleM sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I have had a passion for music since I was very little. Growing up, my household contained many different musical instruments such as the piano, guitar and drums. I would create melodies and sing with my siblings.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

One of my biggest inspirations is Deno. He is an artist I have been looking up to since the age of 10 as he was one of the first male singers from London that I enjoyed listening to. The more I listened to his songs, the less fearful I was about singing in front of a crowd. In the future, I would love to make a song with ZieZie or any afroswing artist.

3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

I am planning on releasing the music video which I shot in South Africa to my latest single ‘Own Lane’.

4. How would you describe your sound?

There is not one way of describing my sound as it very versatile. I do a mixture of melodic rap, afroswing and other forms of Hip-Hop. Many say that my sound is a ‘breath of fresh air’ for the music scene internationally.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

My proudest moment to date is when I was abroad in South Africa and I performed my song ‘The Plan’ in front of hundreds of people residing in the holiday complex which I was at. They all loved it and I gained many South African fans from that performance.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

As long as you keep it real and stay humble, anything is possible. But if you don’t believe in yourself, don’t expect anyone else to believe in you.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

You should definitely check out NinoSLG, Palmzz and Tkandz.

8. What was the biggest challenge you had to face whilst starting your music career?

I launched my music career when I was 15, in late December 2021. This was a time period where I was struggling in school and I had difficulties expressing my emotions and feelings. There were also many distractions which could’ve halted my progress, but I used music as my remedy and managed to steer myself in the right direction.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I love playing football with friends, spending time with my loved ones, going on runs and creating content for my social media pages.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

I can’t live without water, Chocolate and my phone!
