PREMIERE: Planky ft: 2nd Generation Wu - Rescue Me (Single)
Whatever you think of Kanye you can't deny the imprint he's left on hip-hop and in this case that can only be described as a good thing. Planky opens fiercely with a sped up sample of Psychedelic Soul Crew's 'Hooked on a bad thing', so catchy and satisfying you can't help but love it from the jump. In true Planky form this track has funk and groove for daysssss with drums and percussion that'll make you want to dance like it's your turn on Soul Train. 2nd Generation Wu's vocals fit perfectly with this style. No shade to his previous UK collaborators but this style was made for an American drawl. Their Pops will be rightfully proud, they're continuing the Wu name with talent befitting of it. There's some artfully used distortion all over the vocals that really adds to the '70's vibe. If you're a fan of '90's East Coast hip hop (and if you're not I'm not sure we can be friends) you'll love this. It's modern and classic, fresh but familiar. Oh, and did I mention it's funky AF?
