Xidontlie - Searching (Official Video) + 10 Questions

Xidontlie drops his new release “Searching” which is available now on all digital platforms.

Xidontlie is an independent alternative hip-hop/rap recording artist, producer and engineer from Ipswich in the UK.

Along his journey Xidontlie has gained support from radio stations such a BBC Introducing, BBC 1xtra as well as international plays on Iron Throne radio and many others. After taking some time away from recording music for 3 years to focus on other avenues, Xidontlie has returned with a large back-catalogue of music due to release over the course of this year.

Xidontlie sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

It all started at Murry side youth club for me. A social worker used to bring in his decks and run a set full of grime beats to keep us wrong’uns out of trouble. I mean it didn't keep us out of trouble but it definitely sparked my love for music.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

Locally artists like Native James, Markello and Seeka Lyttes have been a major inspiration to not just my music but my work ethic as well but creatively I try to try influence from artist from all over the world as well.

3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

I've got a large back-catalogue of singles to release over the corse of this year but I am currently working on small 5 - 6 track EP, it's still in the creation phase at the moment though.

4. How would you describe your sound?

I'd say my sound is alternative rap mixed with elements of r&b and trap music.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

It's between being picked as BBC Introducing's track of the week or hitting my first 100k streams across all platforms this year.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

My advice would be to experiment as much as possible and don't be afraid to let yourself make "bad music", you don't have to release everything you record so the more you create and go outside of your comfort zone the more you'll see your own potential as well as finding a sound you can stay consistent with.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

Dmajor who's without a doubt one of the most talented producers/engineers I've seen, let alone had the pleasure of working with, as well as Levi Phillips & Markello who both have incredible back catalogues like I've never heard before.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

At the moment I've got Wesley Joseph - Glow, Che Lingo - Coming Up For Air & Lex Amor - Government tropicana all on my playlist heavily.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

If I'm not making music or on the grind, I like watching movies & gaming but I also like urban exploring, visiting new places and playing basketball with the squad any chance I get as well.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

My laptop, good vibes & a cup of tea.
