Mac Wetha - Mac Wetha & Friends 2 (Mixtape)
Multi-faceted artist and producer Mac Wetha releases his new mixtape, “Mac Wetha & Friends 2”, and shares the video for his latest single, the atmospheric and experimental “Massive Chain” featuring rising West London rapper Bawo.
The mixtape follows the release of singles ‘Fairytale’ ft. Rachel Chinouriri, ‘Don’t You Go Falling In Love' with Biig Piig and London rapper Lord Apex, ‘Play Pretend’ which featured US multi-instrumentalist spill tab, and ‘Red Hook’, a collaboration with Los Angeles duo Junior Varsity. The genre-melding mixtape also features Feux, Finn Foxell and Bawo and sees Mac returning to his collaborative roots, which played a formative role in his musical career as resident producer in the NiNE8 Collective. “Mac Wetha & Friends 2” shows Mac building upon his signature production style and innovative sound design, a luminous and evocative mosaic of sound veering from lofi pop-punk to glitchy experimental and dissonant trip-hop soundscapes.
Mac says of the project: “‘Mac Wetha & Friends 2’ is the sequel to a project which means the world to me; a tape that was born naturally by making music with my friends without constraints or pressure. The process of making that first tape taught me so much, collaboration has always been important to me and this sequel is simply a continuation of the ethos of the first Mac Wetha & Friends - bringing artists together, collaborating and learning from each other, and having a good time with your pals. Making music with no regard to the consequences.”
“Mac Wetha & Friends 2” follows the release of Mac’s acclaimed “Cloud Paint” EP last year, a free-spirited collection of his formative pop punk and emo influences showcasing some of his most forward-facing and irrefutably energetic tracks, including the incendiary “Dani Song” and the pop-punk hued celebration of life “Feel Better (Infinite Pitbulls)”.
Mac Wetha is the resident producer of the widely admired London-based NiNE8 Collective, producing tracks for crew members including Biig Piig and Lava LaRue, alongside the occasional juggernaut like Aminé. He’s also toured with the labelmate beabadoobee, and the likes of Deb Never and SadNightDynamite.
