Louis Culture - City (Single)

South London artist Louis Culture returns with first taste of new music since the release of his acclaimed EP When Life Presents Obstacle in 2022.

Once again, Louis links up with producer YAMA//SATO on “CITY” to deliver an ode to London that encapsulates the UK centric sounds that Culture was raised on. The garage heavy beat evokes the nostalgia of the after party and early morning cab rides home, with Louis saying, "City is just an extension of my and YAMA//SATO’s relationship. I feel like artistically his sonics push me into new spaces but very much reflect nostalgia.  The song encapsulates the pace of London life to me. But I feel like it can speak to anyone no matter where they are.”

Speaking on their creative bond, Culture adds, “Mine and YAMA//SATO’s relationship started just through mutual respect for each other’s work. We both have very wide ranges of influences that we try to channel in our music and I feel it is a staple in our bond. That, and being both from big cities with lots of similarities. 7AM was just the beginning."

Louis Culture is the compelling, genre-bending artist who has made his name known in London’s burgeoning underground scene through a number of releases. This includes singles “Part 2” and “Naked”, each of which have garnered thousands of plays across all streaming platforms and support from the likes of Complex, TRENCH, NTS and more. His rise to attention has coincided with that of his crew, Elevation Meditation, containing p-rallel, Lord Apex, Finn Foxell, Ric Reefer and Xav. With his brothers in arms, Louis hosted a stage at Boiler Room’s first annual music festival in 2019, sold out their first headline show at London’s Lyric Theatre in 2017 and performed alongside Lord Apex at slowthai’s first London show in the same year which was then followed by the release of his debut EP Smile Soundsystem in May 2020. Last year saw the release of When Life Presents Obstacle, a career defining body of work that features singles “Grime”, “Twiss” and “7AM ft. Bawo. This release strengthened his stance as a rising contender in the UK alternative rap scene through relatable lyricism, authentic collaboration and his love for sonic experimentation. With an eclectic sound, thoughtful lyrics and a loyal squad behind him, Louis Culture is on the cusp of great things, for himself and for London’s music and culture scenes at large.
