Ninja Kidsoul ft: agajon - Gap Shit (Single)

After taking some time out to focus on fatherhood, the German-American neo-soul artist Ninja Kidsoul is back with a bang on his new single ‘Gap Shit’ featuring his musical cohort, the producer artist agajon.

‘Gap Shit’ which is out 28th April on Kabul Fire Records, is a restlessly creative soulful jam, splicing vocal samples with playful horns, tight bass and an old school hip hop beat. Masterfully produced with vintage warmth by agajon, the track is a perfect vehicle for Ninja Kidsoul’s impressive vocal range, versatile flow, peerless rhymes and ear for a hooky chorus.

The single is a pure example of how the pair, based in Germany dovetail so well together musically. agajon (who has previously worked with Giggs, Jay Prince, Lou Phelps and Selah Sue) delivers an unconventional J Dilla meets Madlib inspired beat, as Ninja Kidsoul’s vocal performance smoothly slips from rap into singing and back.

Lyrically, ‘Gap Shit’ represents a personal reflection on committing to the present moment. Ninja Kidsoul explains “at its core gap shit is about letting the ghosts of the past stay there while also not summoning future ones ahead of their time.” agajon goes on to say “Gap Shit is the approach to music from a place of complete freedom. its base being the sonic bond that deepens the trust in each other to create what's true to our essence."

Born in south Germany’s Schweinfurt to an US-American father and a German mother, it’s this dual heritage which sets his music apart from so many of his contemporaries. Described as ‘one of the pioneers of the New German Soul’ by ARTE Tracks, his progressive leaning and global looking music has turned heads off the back of his COLORS session and performance at Montreux Jazz Festival in 2022.

Being many things at the same time - while hard to put in a box, Ninja Kidsoul above all is a free jazz spirit embodying all that music has to offer with the rare gift from Allah that is his voice.
