Jay Wheeler - Xexo (Official VIdeo) + 10 Questions

During his entire career Jay Wheeler has been classified as the face of romantic reggaeton, and he has leaned into this definition.

Now, after the premiere of his latest single Xexo, he says he’s ready – every once in a while, – to surprise his fans with different rhythms and styles from the hand of his label Dynamic Records.

This new song titled Xexo is risqué and contagious, extolling the pleasures of a purely physical relationship with an upbeat rhythm that will get people dancing.

“I just want to give my fans something different. It doesn’t mean I’ll stop doing what I love and enjoy which is singing about love, but I also want to give them something different every once in a while, so they can experience other facets of Jay Wheeler. I want to show people that I can make good music, but not just romantic music but also fun tracks that will get people dancing. I hope you enjoy it.”, explained the “Favourite Voice” of urban music, Jay Wheeler.

The Track was released simultaneously with the music video, directed by Webster, which features Puerto Rican youtuber and content creator Chente Ydrach in a peculiar conversation which will surely make Jay Wheeler’s fans laugh. Also participating in the video is Wheeler’s partner, legendary producer DJ Nelson.

Jay Wheeler sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

My love for music started when I was a kid. It was the only place where I felt like I could be me without any fear I would be judged or that I would feel bad. When I felt that escape in music, that’s when I said, “This is what I want to do with my life, this is what makes me happy.”

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

There are a lot of artists that inspire me: Arcangel, Sin Bandera, Reik, Boyz II Men, all of them inspire me; they were like my example to model myself after. That is why I dedicate myself to singing music for the heart, maybe that has happened to everyone at some point. I want to collaborate with anyone who has the same love and respect for music that I do.

3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

I am working on my project Emociones 1.5, which is an extension of my album Emociones, where I will be gifting an EP to my fans with various songs full of emotions for my fans, different songs than I’ve done before and I think this EP has some of my favourite songs of 2023.

4. How would you describe your sound?

My sound: romantic, sad, but at the same time different, dark.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

My proudest moment is when I sang at El Choli [Coliseum of Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot]. I think it was always like my ‘trophy’, seeing my team having a good time with something we created since the beginning was really beautiful.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Be sincere with your art, be different, respect everyone around you, be a leader not a boss, value the time of others and be happy.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

Artists that I really admire and I listen to a lot right now are Feid, Omar Courtz, Robi, Deimi, DeiV and Hades, they’re some really good artists that everyone should be following and keeping an eye on.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Un Verbo Sin Ti, Emociones, and Feliz Cumpleaños Ferxxo are the ones I listen to the most right now.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I like to play video games, go out to eat or go on dates with my wife, watch movies, spend time with my family, and go on social media watching videos and funny things.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

Candy, Water and Good Vibes.
