PREMIERE: P Caso - Mise En Scene (EP)

Following the release of his debut EP earlier this year, P CASO has teamed up with producer KALUM for his next tape Mise En Scene. Dropping Friday 5th May the 7-track project further propels the Glasgow-based artist further to the forefront of the city’s burgeoning hip-hop scene.

The forthcoming EP takes the listener through an atmospheric experience in sound and lyricism with tracks like ‘Samba Amour’ and ‘Skoll’ feeling at times like the soundscape of an old noir film.

P Caso’s inimitable wordplay winding corners into the more mellow, nostalgic elements of ‘Klydside’. Dipping in and out of streetlamp-lit roads, diaristic perspectives radiate with slick lyricism over enigmatic instrumentals as P Caso and Kalum collaborate to create a sound which is rarely heard north of the border.

Speaking on the forthcoming EP, Paul said: “I’m really happy with how this project came together - me and Kalum had actually started the project earlier this year before deciding to put it on the back burner until we were both more available. But when we finally made it happen the work felt really fluid and organic, with the help of Axor who mixed the project - everything felt really natural. It was also an opportunity to experiment with new sounds and explore new ways of doing things without getting too caught up on whether other people would like it or not, thanks to Kalum I feel like I have been able to delve into a new way to express myself lyrically”.

The forthcoming release follows the debut EP Not One For The Goodbyes. Triumphant, self-assured and at times strikingly vulnerable, the EP is a meditation on Paul’s adolescence and the challenges that came with it. Dripping with nostalgia - with a classic hip-hop feel - the four-track project paints an immaculately produced portrait of his own anxieties, fears and animosity towards the word ‘goodbye’. It was mastered by fellow Glasgow producer and mixing engineer El Cid in his West End studio.

Live, P CASO has been busy working alongside Coming Up Glasgow, helping curate lineups and hosting open mic nights, showcasing the best-emerging talent Scotland’s ever growing scene has to offer. He’s currently gearing up for a December show to celebrate the launch of his new label High Rise Records, which is dedicated to nurturing the scene further. Expect big things to come in 2023.
