BODUR ft: Denzel Himself - DON’T BEAT THE SWEET OUT OF MY BOY (Single)
London-born, Turkish-Sri-Lanken musician BODUR releases her new single ‘DON’T BEAT THE SWEET OUT OF MY BOY’ featuring Denzel Himself via PACE.
Beginning as a poem that defines her younger brother’s transition from boyhood to manhood, BODUR collaborated with producer Lapsung to create the enchanting soundscape. The 25-year-old outlines her thoughts through metaphors such as “don’t turn his hands into fists, into blades' offering a poetic and rhythmic plea to the tight grip toxic masculinity can hold over young men. Marking the only feature on her forthcoming 3-track EP ‘ÖZ’, enigmatic long-term friend, rapper and producer Denzel Himself delivers a powerful verse merging into BODUR’s musical universe.
BODUR is here to channel natural virtuosity into an exploration of self. The North West London native harnesses a pioneering sound that embraces her dual heritage and layered identities. BODUR’s creative process has shaped her as an artist, inspiring a generation of South Asian and Middle Eastern women across the UK through her authentic sonic and visual aesthetic. Influenced by artists such as FKA twigs and Flying Lotus, she glides between experimental-Pop and Electronic to fuse a pioneering sound.
Whether learning to play traditional Turkish instrument, the oud, or hosting her monthly residency for Balamii radio, BODUR continues experimenting with music as freely as possible.
Denzel Himself - who has fans in the likes of Björk - previously supported JPEG Mafia before completing his European tour last month which saw him perform intimate shows in Paris, Amsterdam, Belgian, Berlin and Copenhagen following a London headline. BODUR simultaneously launched with debut single ‘GORGEOUS’ which garnered support from COLORS, Wonderland, Notion, Clash, Jyoty, Jasmine Takhar and more. With her focus set on the forthcoming project, both new and old fans are highly anticipating the next move.
