Cross The Tracks 2023 Review

The sun was out glistening over Brockwell Park and we were all ready to begin festival season. The atmosphere was chilled and relaxed, we saw beautiful outfits at this wonderful sold out festival.

We will tell you about our highlights of who we saw:

We started off the day watching Domi & JD Beck we really enjoyed the aesthetics on stage. They were surrounded by beautiful pink flowers that looked like springtime blossom. Domi was sitting on a seat that looked like a toilet which I found hilarious. They face towards each other for their set and brought us into their world. I especially enjoyed their rendition of ‘Endangered Species’ by Wayne Shorter'.

James Vickery he sang an absolutely beautiful rendition of ‘Until Morning’ which gave me chills. He gave a smooth and silky performance. Alfa Mist with wonderful jazzy vibes, his band were immaculate vibes. As he would glance around at them in appreciation for being on stage with him. You could sense the gratitude in his demeanour it was endearing to witness. Lizzie Berchie with that warm and cozy tone which could melt chocolate played my personal favourite ‘Pass Time’ as she glided across the stage. Her first festival performance and she did not disappoint.

Karl Benjamin had a presence that made you get up and pay attention. I actually overheard an audience member say ‘damn, I mean I wouldn’t want to follow that’. Giving us his very first he released ‘Apricot Sky’. Had the audience in the palm of his hand as he got us to sing along with him.

Ezra Collective really brought the party atmosphere playing their own songs mixture with covers that were blasts from the past. The passion from the drummer was incredible, I thought he was going to lift off into the stratosphere at one point, mayor music crew face there. They said a beautiful speech about the important of joy in a world where there is so much destruction and uncertainty. We were all able to be here and enjoy this moment together and I think that’s beautiful. Masego had everyone dancing as he effortlessly switched from sax to singing, showing finesse and charisma. It ended with NxWorries with their chilled out vibe which was a contrast in pace, but it matched a sweet Sunday evening when you are winding down. Knxwledge was at the back raised so you could see him looking cool as a cucumber. Anderson .Paak had a huge furry hat on that was somewhat reminiscent of Jamiroquai with the most interesting mic stand I’ve ever seen.

Make sure you keep an eye on our Instagram page for more content, you might see some familiar faces popping up there.
