PREMIERE: Sylvia Mwenze - So Good (Single)

Touted as the queen of Brighton RnB, Sylvia is on a quest to reinvigorate ‘baby making music’ - a phenomenal singer-songwriter, known for her powerful and emotive voice. Relax, slip into something soft and sip your favourite wine to the sultry sounds of Sylvia Mwenze.

I feel like I’ve been taken back in time with this track it has a timeless RnB feel, going back to the roots. This is the type of song you’d put on in the background when you’re sharing a romantic evening with a partner. The hypnotic beat has you in a trance and the harmonies so deliciously satisfying, I can’t wait to slow dance to this. The song starts with a late night phone call recording - an ode to the 90s era. The slow tempo and soulful groove then begins, with James (Yakul), layering live percussion and bass over the spacious beat, and Sylvia working her deep mellifluous vocals to describe that wistful feeling of remembering a time that felt 'So Good'.

Speaking on the track, Sylvia explains:

‘So Good came about then I was going through my old school slow jam playlist from back in the day - I had named it 'Baby Making Music' and it was filled with some old Marques Houston, Aaliyah and Janet Jackson... I realised the essence of those tracks had not been captured for a while, particularly in the UK. So I made it my mission to bring back that feel good sound and that's when my project took form - a collection of RnB love songs, with a modern take, that you could send your lover, or imagine it's about the person you're crushing on. I feel like society needs that permission to love right now.'

Sylvia has taken a much needed hiatus to focus on other areas in music and has been thriving. Having shared the stage with artists such as Ashanti and Bobby Valentino, she has gone on to do backing vocals for Celeste, Peter Andre, and, currently, Rag'n'Bone Man. Previous collaborations with artists such as Hatter, Saffa Ghorishi, Eyez, JP Rose and pop/house group Ku De Ta, have received support from BBC Introducing, BBC 1Xtra and Scott Mills on BBC Radio 1. Now she is focusing on her own music, it’s her time to fly and we are so excited for her journey!

Be sure to follow Sylvia Mwenze for the latest. Her music available to stream now.
