KitschKrieg ft: SwitchOTR - More Than That (Official Video) + 10 Questions
Berlin production trio KitschKrieg announces forthcoming album, ‘German Engineering 1’ with new single ‘More Than That’ featuring introspective Croydon rapper SwitchOTR out now via SoulForce Records.
Following in the footsteps of KitschKrieg’s recent UK collaboration with ARZ on ‘BABY’, they are back and showing versatility and depth of production with this latest single, ‘More Than That’. The soft keys provide the perfect backdrop for 20-year-old SwitchOTR to reflect on tales of hardship and his journey to this point, citing why he is now worth ‘More Than That’.
Since meeting in 2014 through a flatshare, the trio of producers Fiji Kris, Fizzle, and the elusive photographer/ art director °awhodat° has redefined how Germany sounds, looks, and feels. They embody minimalism through their engineering, visuals, photography, and artwork and draw influences from their hometown's electronic music scene and Soundsystem culture. With more than a billion streams to their name, they are known for their sophisticated sonics, contrast-heavy black-and-white imagery, and popular streetwear brand. The band released their critically acclaimed debut album in 2020, which boasts two No.1, Platinum award-winning singles, ‘Standard’ and ‘Unterwegs’. Over the years, KitschKrieg have worked with a huge range of artists, they are now kicking off a new chapter with ‘German Engineering 1’ which boosts an impressive array of talent from the UK and across the pond including SL, Skillibeng, Nemzzz, Arz, Stefflon Don, SwitchOTR, and Midas the Jagaban aswell as US artists Kali, Anti Da Menace, Dusty Locane, 2Rare and Ken The Man.
Renowned for his work ethic, vulnerability and storytelling, SwitchOTR was an underground rapper until ‘Coming For You’ ft A1xJ1 shut down the internet, charted in the top 5 UK singles charts, and cemented his position internationally. Fast forward to the present, and he has cultivated his unique sound that jumps between melodic choruses and powerful verses with storytelling at the core.
Throughout his career, he has worked with Russ Millions, Loski, JBEE and Bandokay, and is co-signed by Kenny Allstar, who recently tapped him up for a Mad About Bars freestyle. ‘More Than That’ is one for the heads and just a taste of what KITSCHKRIEG have to come this year with a stream of A-List collabs locked and ready to go.
KitschKrieg sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:
1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?
All 3 of us found different things ways into the music game and later we met each other in the Soundsystem scene, waaaay before KitschKrieg was founded. But it’s safe to say the Soundsystem music got us addicted to this music stuff and is the backbone of everything we do.
2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?
Kraftwerk & Ice Spice.
3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?
We have our first international album “German Engineering 1” coming out July 28. It features 10 tracks overall, 5 with UK vocalists and 5 with US vocalists. The plan was to work with the young talent after we’ve done pretty much everything in Germany and it works. We’ve had a lot of fun.
After that we will jump right into promoting “German Engineering 2”, which is 100 % artists from the states. We managed to work with some of our all time heroes like Future or newcomers like Fridayy, Kali or Mariah The Scientist.
4. How would you describe your sound?
Minimal & effective. German.
5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?
When mom calls and says that she likes the new song.
6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?
Fuck what people tell you, especially from the industry. They have no idea what they are talking about and they will kill your creativity. Don’t accept “no” and believe in yourself. Keep making good music cause good music will make the difference in the end.
7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?
UK: Jim Legxacy.
US: Mariah the Scientist.
8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?
Fridayy “Lost in Melody” is something all three of us can constantly be found playing.
9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?
Fiji: Acid
Fizzle: Weed
awhodat: Holidays
10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?
Laptop, Laptop, Laptop.
