Krillz - 10 Questions
The North London rapper Krillz has been causing quite the impact since releasing Dubai in 2022; totalling over 2 million organic streams. After ‘Top G’, his most streamed track to date with over 7 million streams, Parlaphone’s latest signee the 18 year old rapper Krillz releases ‘Boujee’ which is gearing up to be the viral hit of the summer.
Krillz was raised in Islington, North London and is one of the first generation of artists to have been around drill since the very beginning. Krillz has been listening to drill as early as 2017, vibing to the likes of Headie One, RV & 410. He has a distinctive way of letting fans know what sound each track will be - from his clothing. If he wears yellow in the video, he believes this represents litness and if it’s an emotional song, he’ll be wearing red.
We caught up with Krillz to hear all about his music as he answers our infamous 10 Questions:
1. Tell me how it all began; what sparked your love of music?
It was back in July 2021 – I’d been writing bars with my boy DB, we hadn’t spoken prior but we ended up going to the studio and recording this tune together. We previewed it, thought why not, and it was getting hella traction and people were backing it so we thought we could really do this. That’s how I really started; it wasn’t like I wanted to be a rapper when I was a kid, it just happened.
2. Who are some artists that have influenced you, that you’d like to work with in the future?
I would say Central Cee, Polo G, Sleepy Hallow and DaBaby.
3. You recently dropped Boujee, your first track of 2023. The video’s dope - over half a million streams in two weeks – congratulations. Can you tell us about what projects you’ve got coming up?
I plan on dropping a project soon, it’s in the works. I can’t confirm when it’ll come out but it’s on the way. It might be this year – we’ll have to see.
4. How would you describe your sound as an artist?
I don’t try to limit myself to one sound – I’d say there’s a fun party lit side, and there’s a more thoughtful emotional side. I switch it up sometimes.
5. What is your proudest moment to date as an artist?
That’s crazy – I actually don’t know. Maybe hitting my first million views.
6. Do you have any advice for our readers who might be trying to play the mad game of music?
Just believe in yourself. Obviously you see a vision – if someone doesn’t agree with your vision, don’t let their opinion mess that up. Just be yourself – go get it.
7. Any artists on your radar right now that we should be on the lookout for?
My boy DB, for sure.
8. What albums have you got on rotation on your Spotify right now?
DaBaby – Baby on Baby. A couple from Polo G, a couple from Hall of Fame.
9. What do you like to do when you’re not making music?
I like basketball, I just don’t get the time.
10. Can you name three things you can’t live without when you’re in the studio?
Water, the mic and my engineer Maniac.
