Continuing to take over the summer with her infectious track “Keep Dat”, rising artist iCandy has recruited the rap games current top females for the remix. “Keep Dat” part 2, featuring Glorilla, Kali and Big Boss Vette is out everywhere now.
iCandy’s name began flooding the national consciousness in late 2022 when the Pompano Beach Florida native first released “Keep Dat,” the playful, confident, and effortlessly bold track which now serves up soundtracks for girls’ night and permanently altered Candy’s trajectory. Candy’s magnetic personality and strong advocation for women’s empowerment, keeps a close relationship with her growing fans online. “Keep Dat” has become a TikTok staple with over 3.5 Billion views and 800k creates.
“Keep Dat” has now taken on a life of its own in mainstream media as teachers are embracing the sentiment of the song by celebrating the start of summer with no more students and school. Check out some of the viral moments they are creating HERE on ABC’s Good Morning America. Celebrities are having fun with it too with the latest dances coming from Lizzo, Chloe Bailey, Alex Rodriguez, Emily Ratajkowski and more.
iCandy sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:
1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?
I used to hang in the studio with my god brother and his friends a lot. After being around the atmosphere so much I decided to get in the booth. Luckily I did and loved it. After my first performance I was locked In. Music has always been an escape for me.
2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?
I would say life influenced me more than anything growing up in the hood, not having much always wanting more and being able to be the voice for other young girls like myself. Coming from a hard place.
I'd love to work with Lizzo. Love the feel good music that inspires me to touch hearts.
3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?
I’m currently working on a new EP. I'm really excited about the music I've been cooking up with great producers who actually get my sound.
4. How would you describe your sound?
I would like to call it boarder line. It walks a line right between hip hop and pop. Fun, sassy and hood.
5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?
Getting signed and working with other people that see the vision.
6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?
It's a long road and it gets lonely. But no matter what don't give up. Stay consistent, stay authentic to who you are.
